Would you replace a PS3 Original (80GB w/ BC-Emu) and get the PS3 Slim (250GB)?

No, if I had the 80GB w/BC I would just replace the HDD to the like a 320GB or 500GB. Unless you want a smaller PS3 for space reasons then I would say get the Slim.

Yea, that's true. I guess I keep thinking because the Slim is newer. I also thought that Performance would be better on the Slim than the Original, but I think it isn't really much or at all. :)

The performance is the same, just less energy consuming.

I'd keep my original PS3 ... until it broke. Then I'd replace it with the slim. Newer more reliable hardware. Besides, the only option to replace an original is eBay and I'm not going that route.

Even though Sony seems intent on neutering the hell out of every ps3 in existence... I wouldn't get rid of a BC unit for anything. And well, given that Sony chose to start removing functionality from the console and passing it off as a firmware update (such as removing the OtherOS feature), gives me even less incentive to update the firmware at all, or to buy any future Sony products.

Definitely the Slim, takes up less energy and is heeds a more reliable. And I don't think I could stand to look at PS2 games graphically anymore.

I actually just did this yesterday. Was worth it to me. I still have a ps2 though, so it's not really an issue for me. Besides, with so many great games coming out, who has to to rehash old stuff.

when I got my 160gb PS3 Bundle with uncharted 1, the slim was already out for a month, but i choose the original ps3 because it looks BETTER and can stand vertical. the vertical stand wasnt even out for slim, and slim is ugly. The fat looks like what a revised version would, with the touch sensitive buttons, the shiney finish, ..*foams up*

If the PS3 was a portable device that you take out in public everywhere then looks would matter, but its just gonna stay at your house sometimes even out of sight. Looks for a home console should be one of the last reasons you think about, unless you're some kind of interior decorator.

if your current one works fine, then keep it. now if it were to start acting up, i'd tell you to go for the slim. also, unless you put a ton of movies on it, 120GB should be fine.

Have an 80 gig fat, and I did love it then FW 3.21 came out. i am still running FW 3.15 because I don't want to loose my Linux install. Other than that, the Fats are far superior to the slims for numerous reasons. 1) Backward Compatibility 2) 4 USB ports 3) Memory Card readers 4) OtherOS function (if you haven't upgraded above FW 3.15) Plus they look better than the slims

Just because it's new, it doesn't mean it's always better. Stick with the 80GB. It's better than the new ones.

80gbs can fetch a pretty penny on ebay due to their rareity these days, so if BC is not a concern, check out the ebay price. if its higher then a 250gb, get teh 80 then sell it and get a 250gb.

Nope, I have an original 20 GB and there's no way I'm replacing it if I don't have to. I upgraded it to 320GB of hard drive space, so there's no reason to trade it in...

I'm doing the same thing too; though I just got lucky to finally have a working 60GB model, with hardware BC. Basically waiting for geohot and/or someone else to finally start bringing some CFW. Sony broke my last straw of patience with that pissant move of removing Linux install functionality retroactively, and now have no sympathy left in their 'fight' against piracy.

If you can find the original then go for it. I have the 40GB one and it's wonderful. I just wish that I could have a bigger HDD but I may upgrade it soon. The only good thing about the slim PS3's is that they have the bigger HDD.

That and if you're an A/V buff, there is that HDMI-CEC support, so that you can have a more plug-and-play experience with the ps3 on a supporting HDTV. But given what they (Sony) were able to do by updating the PS3's HDMI from 1.0 to 1.3a via firmware updates, and supporting the handshaking levels therein, as well as updating the PS3 from Profile 1.0 to 2.0 (for video) and 3.0 for audio, I fail to see how adding in HDMI-CEC coding is really so difficult that they had to make a whole new model for it.

Absolutely no need to. Just like yourself I have original 60GB which I replaced with 320GB and I also have PS3 Slim for living room where it's mostly used as Blu-ray player for friends and family.

No need to replace it. :)
