I would say without a doubt it is the casing making that sound due to either heating or cooling of the system. You often hear it with Cars when you turn them off as everything cools down. It will not be components that are intended to get hot, CPU, GPU, HDD, but mainly the case. What is the airflow like around the machine? I have to admit I haven't heard it yet and I have only recently bought the slim.
Don't put oil on it and fry eggs. That should solve it.whenever i turn on off my ps3 it makes some wird cracking noises. wtf is that?works fine though

Just your PS3 saying it loves you. Naw..I get that annoying sound as well in my slim. Probably things settling down and probably has something to do with the heat in the console. I don't know really, but allot of different electronics do the same things..so no worry.whenever i turn on off my ps3 it makes some weird cracking noises. wtf is that?works fine though

My PS3 does that as well. Does the old PS3 made an cracking sound when users turn it off or not?

Nope, purely because there is more space between the power supply and the plastic.
Honestly it's nothing to worry about, it's just the platic cooling down after use.Yep my slim does that weird sound too. I'm a bit worried that it wants to say"I'm about to die"

1) The PS2 slim had the power supply outside of the main unit 2) The orignal Xbox was huge, leaving plenty of space between the pastic and the power supply 3) The 360 has it's power supply on the outside.PS2 or xbox, 360 never had that sound. why ?

The orignal PS2 was much bigger, meaning there is more space between the power supply and the plastic.its nothing to worry about, its the plastic creaking from expanding and contracting from heat. my fat ps3 does this too

but we don't hear that on a ps2.maybe the ps3 is heating too much.they have to do something to help the ps3 to stay cool like a ps2
me it's not my ps3 cracking,it's my damn standard tv i don't know why it always do this cracking noise.it's the thing that happen make you worried if the tv will explode someday....

Trying reading the other posts in the thread before assuming something like that. The Orignal PS2 was bigger than the PS3 slim, meaning it had more space between the power supply and the plastic. It's really not hard to understand, I don't know why people are making such a big deal out of it...like somebody already said, it's grade 1 science. -__-[QUOTE="silentfox13"][QUOTE="jetslalom"]

my ps2 slim always "cracks" when i turn it off, the longer it was on the more "cracks" it makes.
It's normal for most electronics, my tv and PS3 also do it, it's as if the console stretchs itself after the effort it made :P
