Hey guys I just got my 160gb to replace my 80gb which died. But anyways I noticed that the slim runs alot slower than my 80gb. Like when i go to the trophie section during a game it takes at least 30 seconds to load it up. while my 80gb would be 5 secs tops. Is that normal for the slim to run a bit slower?

Also did sony add a better disc laser in the slim? or is it all the same parts and such.

Thanks alot guys and its nice to be back on PSN :)

When it took 30 seconds was that the first time you synced up the trophies since you got the PS3 Slim? It takes extra long to download the trophies from an existing account onto the harddrive and I think the more trophies you have the longer it takes. So once their all downloaded onto your harddrive, it should sync faster the next time you do it. Either that or the sony servers are just running slow or theres a problem with your internet speed. I don't think the PS3 hardware itself can effect such things.

As for the disc lazor, I have no idea. I've certainly found the disc drive itself to be more louder when the disc is spinning than my FAT 60GB PS3. I wouldn't be surprised if they used cheaper hardware in it to save money. I just hope they fixed the YLOD issue.

For the first time syncing trophies might take very long, and the more you have the longer it takes. Sync all trophies and then try it. Also, the speed of XMB radicaly (adn i mean RADICALY) changes according to a game you are playing and also on the moment you enter XMB. Some games even have faster XMB than others, but some games have painfuly slow XMB. Im getting Slim tomorrow (upgrading from 2008 80gb model). I hope the "cheap parts" theory mentioned above isnt true lol.

No my internet is DSL and for the sync it was done already. Everytime I go to the xmb menu during a game to see what trophies I unlocked or what trophies i need to get, it takes about 25 to 30 seconds to load it up.

But for the system it runs silent and doesnt get hot at all. I did look up problems with the slim and thats what I was looking out for. But the system runs cool and is silent, I guess i can live with the slow load time of the trophies. But its only ingame. If I am just on the menu without a game running in the background it loads up fine.

Does it do in every game or just in a particular one? For instance, in Black Ops it takes me about 12 seconds to load up XBM"s friend list and another 10 to open or create a message. Especialy when in multiplayer part of the game.

In-game XMB runs differently depending on the game, some will run smooth while others will cause it to slow down. It's not the console. Regarding the Bluray, it uses updated components but the speed is the same, basically it's exactly the same spec wise.

What do you mean by load it up? Do you mean trophy synching takes that long? Because that's normal...but if your trophies are all synced, and you click the Trophy collection icon and it takes really long just to open it - yeah, that's not normal.
