[QUOTE="jwsoul"] No it is a problem your missing the point of the post. i play games on my PS3 as do the vast majority owners i do not see why we have to download updates that have nothing todo with the gameplaying features of the PS3. Bad design choice is the only thing i can think of! RedCat65
Oh, well you can't really complain about something that's free.
It's free stuff.
It's like ads on a website... if you want to remove the ads (read: annoyances) then you have to go premium and pay up, so like I said, you might as well just buy a 360.
No you get an addon like Adblock or something, and the Xbox 360 get's updates too so your point is invalid, you pay for Xbox but you'll still have to download updates to go online just as much as PSN.
Ok, so apparently you didn't read my next post after that one.
I never said the 360 didn't get updates. I said that in relation to how TC feels about the updates: the only way to justify complaining about mandatory updates on an internet service is with a subscription fee, which PSN doesn't even have.
So he's complaining about something he shouldn't be, because he isn't even paying for it.
The way I see it, as long as PSN is free, Sony can make us download whatever we want, and I'm sure this is in their Terms of User Agreement. You don't have to play online, but if you want to, you need to download this update because it's better than doing that, and then charging you $50 a year.

lol, It happens.
You are missing his point. He's not complaining that the non gaming features exist; he just dislikes the fact that ALL UPDATES ARE MANDATORY. Its easy to not deal with it after you are FORCED to download, he just says you should be able to choose not to download the update yet still play online. I agree, as I rarely get online and just about every time I do, before I can play my games, browse the net, etc... I'm forced to download and its usually something I'm never going to use.Sony markets the PS3 as an "all-in-one" entertainment centre. Hence the tagline: it only does everything.
The average gamer might not care about things like facebook, but you aren't being forced to use it. Also, those updates fix various issues that aren't usually documented. Notice how the friends list looks better now?
King9999
What, the updates? In my experience most of them have been mandatory for me to use other features of the PSN such as the Playstation Store.[QUOTE="thunderf00t"][QUOTE="Jaysonguy"]
They're all optional
Jaysonguy
No, using them
yea... but is kind of a bug that you have to update for stuff you will never use... I`m not as bug as the TC thus, I simple do not care :PComplaining about 40 minutes of updating....man.....awful...Facebook? I dont want Facebook on my damn PS3!
Somthing about being able to view photos better?
Oh and some rubbish todo with your friends list.
Honestly why dose this additional data prevent the average GAMEPLAYER from going online and playing his PS3. Im at a loss why these largekly pointless updates should affect our abbility to go online in general. Surely versions to not matter when it comes to playing Demons Souls or CODMW2 online do they?
I mean Facebook WTH man....
