the is a converter called video9 its free and converts any movie file in to mp4. its good but i have had couple of movie files come out the converter abit glitchy and out of sync audio, but most of the time they come out good.

yes many times, a question just came up, is it able to convert digital copies, like how some movies have the free digital copy, bc thast wat im trying to convert.PSP Video 9 works better than PS3 Video 9.
If the video is DVD quality before conversion, it will be DVD quality coming out, just smaller to fit a PSP.
But then you can take this video, play it on a PS3 blown up and it still looks good.

But some AVI files jsut don't work becasue they're retarded.
Most do, though.
If it'll play on DivX, then it'll play on the PS3.
currently burned to my ps3 for movies are are mpeg1, mpeg4, vc-1, divx...
just make sure to copy them as a data file to your dvd when you burn it so the ps3 will rip it to the hard drive.
as for which converter works best, that depends on what you're willing to spend. i prefer to not spend a dime for it, but not sure i can get into how to go about it on the threads without raising a flag
