I believe you need to hold down the power button for 5seconds and it will reset any display settings you have right now and should work then .

correct. if you don't down the power button, it resets the video connections, and the PS3 will auto-detect the HDMI.

there is no "1.2" or "1.3" cables. it's the same cable. I surely hope the topic creator didn't pay more for the "1.3" cable.

to the topic creator, do you have your HDTV set to its HDMI input setting?

HDMI 1.3 is backwards compatible with all other HDMI devices. I don't think hardly anyone has a v1.3 tv anyway. And there are no 1.3 cables, just certified tests. Any cable will work with any HDMI version, it's just 1.3 has to be a higher quality cable, thicker gauge, to support the bandwidth needed for the most tough 1.3 tasks. If a cable is sold as 1.3, that only means it passed tests. But any HDMI cable will work with v1.3 devices. And I don't see anyone doing deep color form the PS3 right now so this can't be the issue.

Like said before it can't be a 1.3 issue. And I take it when you say it is set to the HDMI setting, that means you have the tv set to the correct input number that matches the HDMI port you used? And you removed the old composite cable from the PS3, right?

turn off ur ps3. unhook everything. plug then back in turn on ur tv. then make sure the channel is on the hdmi channel then turn on ur ps3. u should get the ps3 has detected a hdmi hook up or something like that.thats when ull see the timers countdown. click yes and the screen will go black and then it should say on 720 p or 1080i on ur ps dash board. if it dont work its ur wire i guess...

I found this in a different site, see if it works, but sounds like maybe that's what you were trying, running on av and then trying to switch to HDMI in the settings. Though, hopefully a step in this will make a difference. Make sure 1080p24 is set to off, not auto. I heard there's some RGB setting that can have an issue. Hopefully the PS3 is not trying to do 1080p or something. With only one HDMI port it will be hard to tell if the port is bad or the cable, even the PS3 port.

12-30-06, 11:14 PMI went thru a similar thing when I first tried mine with HDMI. Could get it to work for a while, then no. Then audio would work on movies, but not games (talking optical here). It did indeed seem very fickle and the several hours I spent with it I was none to happy.

However, the unit has settled down the past couple of days and works perfect thru HDMI and optical now. Here is what I did:

I discounted HDMI and hooked up thru composite. I set up the wireless connection and had it check for updates. There of course was one, so download it and installed it (pretty much an auto process). I then did a power down including turning off on the rear of the unit (don't know if this was needed...but did it anyway).

While powered off I hooked up HDMI, leaving the composite plugged in. I then turned on the main power at the rear. I then touched the power button holding for 5 seconds till I heard the 2nd beep. The unit defaulted to run thru composite.

I then went thru the set up area and changed the display out to HDMI. Now when I did this the screen went blank and my display did not switch over. However I switched to HDMI on the display and sure enough, there was the image just fine. I then said "yes" I wanted to keep this setting to save it. I then unplugged the composite. I then set up audio thru optical.

Since that time I have been using the wireless controler to power down. Now my display automatically picks up the HDMI signal switches over. I have had no troubles at all since and all has been well.

Don't know if this will work for you, but worth a shot.Sdallnct

Make sure you are switching your t.v. input to the input carrying the HDMI signal. When I went from component cables to HDMI, my screen went black and then I had to switch the t.v. input. I had heard that switching was a bit of an issue, so I left both component cables and HDMI plugged in at the same time when I made the switch. Once the screen went black, I switched inputs and then saw the screen that asked if I wanted to keep these settings along with the timer counting down. I selected yes and it has worked ever since.

uhh, plug it in with the cables that work...and then go to your options and change it to HDMI while the other cables are still pluged in ( i think you can plug the HDMI in too) that might work..just change the setting i guess

..... reset it back to default setting on your PS3 crossbar then turn off your PS3, and plugg in the HDMI or whichever cable you got, then turn on your TV and your PS3...... much easier that way.

oh man, i had the exact same problem. The problem is that your tv will have a specific channel for hdmi, I have a sony tv, so my tv's two hdmi ports are on videos 6 and 7, instead of the regular video 2 for standard def. Try to go to the "video" channels on your tv, and try to find the hdmi one, it should be a second channel that displays your ps3 xmb. YOu can also look up your manual for the HDMI channel on your tv, or call your tv's manufacturer. Just relax, and don't panic lol.

Hook both cables up and then go to the display menu on the PS3. Switch it to HDMI on the settings, turn off the system, and unplug the standard cables, leaving the HDMI in.

Thanks to everyone that was trying to help, even the guy that suggested to go drop a deuce. I think my HDMI input on my tv is bad. I have a 2 year extended warranty so they are coming to check it out. I have tried 2 PS3's on my tv and neither worked, I also took my HDMI cable to a local shop and tested it on a TV and it works fine so it has to be my TV. Hopefully they can get it fixed the day they come, or at least give me a loaner.

its not your tv or your hdmi setups, alot of peopel have this problem with resetting your ps3.

turn your ps3 off

connect it through hdmi and make sure your av cables are NOT plugged in

now hold the power button for about 5 seconds or untill you hear 3 beeps, the 3rd beep should take longer to hear

then you should see a screen that says they have detected an hdmi input and if you want to use that

then you should be able to see it.

if not, call sony but im sure this will work.
