I bought the 60gig model off of Ebay about a year and a half ago, and made absolute sure that both PS2 and PS1 games worked properly. And they did. However, sometime between then and December of last year (when I first noticed the problem) my PS3 stopped reading PS1 discs. PS3, PS2, and downloaded PSOne Classics all work perfectly fine; just not PS1 games. When I insert a disc it simply shows the 'reading' icon up in the right corner for about 5 minutes, then stops. No icon pops up in "Games," I get no error.

I have tried every PS1 game I own (all 15+ of them), so it is not the games. It is the PS3.

Anyone have any solutions/ideas?

So there's no way to fix it then? I'm contemplating formating my hard drive and seeing if that does the trick (backing everything up onto a flash drive). Is it a firmware issue?

Seriously? I thought downgrading the firmware wasn't possible? And if the firmware is the issue, is Sony aware of it?

Actually, you don't >.> I just tried all the PS1 discs I have, and they all play perfectly fine on my PS3 with the latest firmware. Anyway, TC, you might want to think about calling Sony. I'd give the reformat a shot first though, you never know.

I have a feeling that they won't tell me anything useful, but I guess I'll have to give it a shot eventually. I did a quick reformat and that did not work. I thought about doing a full reformat but it estimated taking 24 hours to do so (err, is that normal? Lol), so I cancelled.

I hear it takes a while. Never heard of 24 hours... more like 5.
