This! With that said, I hope we don't see this release until at least 2014. I'm perfectly content with the PS3 for a few more years.

Agreed.
what they wanna do is what they done with the NGP very powerful and make it developer friendly do we wont c those stupid ports
As long as there is backwards compatibility with the PS3 and the Move peripherals then I am happy.nightshade869This will be the only thing to get me to purchase a PS4 before it drops to PS2-style $99 price levels. However, they've dug themselves a bit of a hole by using the Cell processor - they either need to include it or figure out some way to properly emulate it in the next processor...or simply use an updated, higher clocked version in the PS4. The latter would make the most sense, although I thought Sony sold the rights to Cell manufacturing to Toshiba a couple of years back.

That would be nice but if that kind of hardware is gonna be included don't expect it to be under $600. A core i7 costs as much as the current PS3 by itselfWhat about the PS4 with i7 Intel processor, and NVIDIA graphic chip and 2GB of RAM.
Easy, powerfull and multifunctional.
The bad would be, it will be a hackers party.

I think we'll see it a lot sooner than that. I'm predicting E3 2012. Besides its not like the PS3 would instantly disappear after the ps4 comes[QUOTE="nightshade869"]As long as there is backwards compatibility with the PS3 and the Move peripherals then I am happy.DrRockso87

Definitlely. Though I have the feeling will see a new Microsoft/Nintendo console well before then. In 08 when I got my PS3 I said to myself. Why would there need to be a PS4 I can't see this getting any better.I also would like my PSN to carry over along with all my trophies when there eventually is one. This is a must for me.
So I guess E3 2011: NGP focussed, NGP releases, E3 2012: first information about PS4, E3 2013: a lot of information about the PS4 and how well it works with the NGP together, 13/14 release of PS4 :)
Oh, and yeah, I like nVidia :D Pretty much all my Notebooks and PCs have graphic cards / chips from them, they're fine
PS4 will probably come around 2013-2014 and it will cost a ton (+$650), have very little good games available and have bugs. I will always pass on getting the "newest" system until price comes down, enough time passes where there are plenty of good games and the bugs are cleared out. I guess I'll get the SLIM PS4 in 2016.
I doubt we'll see back-compat in future consoles. MS gave up on it with the 360, and Sony straight up removed it from PS3.
I also doubt you'll see a standard processor like the i7, or whatever is current in 2 years, in the PS4. It would be obsolete almost immediately
Finally, if there's one thing I hope the company learned, it's that you can't sell something at $600 and expect to win. They did okay but it's not exactly like PS2 vs Xbox

Agree with that last statement. The PS4 at launch should be $500 at max. Anything over that and Sony is just crazy.
After seeing the new Unreal Engine footage and Battlefield 3... I think it's about time. This gen of consoles are seriously starting to show their age. dk00111You're joking right? Maybe the other console is showing it's age, but the PS3 has yet to reach it's potential.
i doubt it very much. i think sony learned a costly lesson with the ps3 as far as price point goes. they much like another game company who i shall not name got a little to big for the breachs lol. there ego was wrighting checks there fan base could not cash lol :p. any way i think the head guys at sony thought they could build a system that cost a lot and people would buy it any way. while it hardly tanked it was far from the all but instant exploson that the first two systems were. 500 and 600$ ect is just to much for a console for it to have mass apeal. And thats not to say sony over charged or any thing. at the time it was a very fair price for what the hardwear was. the BR player alone made it worth it as stand alone BR players were even more money. but still thats a ton of cash for a lot of people to spend, plus buying games ect. Any way i expect the ps4 to be much more compatative as far as price goes. i predect under 400$ eather 349.99 or 499.99$ USA max. And hopefully sony wont unknowningly help fund and devlope one of there rivals GPU this time lol. http://www.firingsquad.com/news/newsarticle.asp?searchid=21141PS4 will probably come around 2013-2014 and it will cost a ton (+$650), have very little good games available and have bugs. Ehh im hoping next year at the latest...Technology needs to move forward with gaming, espeically seeing vids of BF3 and what could be the next step in gaming.
I'm in no hurry whatsoever to see the next round of consoles developed.
As much as I'd love to see what games would be developed with a new system, I'm WAY too far behind already this gen on all systems to even be thinking about another one anytime in the next 5 years.

lol @ hasnt even played crysis yet. even you're showing your inexperience with this comment
The way I see it the ps4 will not have a high price point. honestly I dont think any future console will have a high price point for some time. The fact it took sony so long to catch up and actually make a profit shows us people are not willing to pay a high price for a console. I bought my first as soon as I heard they were doing away with bc, and it cost me 500 bucks. It was worth it to me, but many people I know have issues paying 300 for a console. My guess would be $400, $500 MAX.
I will gladly welcome a new console, but im in no hurry for another. It really comes down to the issues sony is having lately. If piracy becomes rampant, or LG wins their case against sony, its quite possible we will see a new console sooner than expected. That is of course if sony can afford it. I have always loved the playstation since the first and since I dont quite agree with alot of what the competitors(I own all 3) are doing I hope sony continues to provide the playstation brand.
I pretty sure I read that somewhere as well. It seems like they JUST released the PS3, and a couple years after the PS4 comes out, PS3 games will probably stop being made just like what happened to the PS2 so for new games, people would have to trade up.Im pretty sure I read somewhere that Sony put on hold the PS4 development, so...

As long as there is backwards compatibility with the PS3 and the Move peripherals then I am happy.nightshade869I seriously doubt it will be, and that really does bother me, my games aren't disposable. PS4 won't be cell based and any emulation would be very complex and unpracticle. I fear the days of BC are over. I really doubt I would get a PS4 if they're not using BC. I'll go over to PC.

How much more can they optimize? When they make a game that uses most of a BR disc, I'll consider it maxed out. The fact that most games only use 20% - 30% (some less) of the disc's capacity tells me that there's a potential that hasn't been met.
Hurry up and announce it!!!!
I'm soooo close to having to get a PC - playing Dragon Age: Origins right now making and it's making me weep that I can't play this great game at 1080P and at a drastic improvement over this choppy framerate (it's a great game regardless, but the framerate is somewhat annoying to me as it is on more than a handful of PS3 games).
A PS4 right around the corner @ $299 would be welcome news and maybe make me think twice about investing in PC gaming, but unfortunately I don't see this happening for at least 2 years and I'm not sure they will learn from the PS3 and price it at $299 at launch.

It would be great to see some exclusive games use up 100% of the blu-ray (think of an epic RPG with tons of world to explore, tons of cinematics, etc). I'm thinking before this gen is over there will be at least a few games to fit this bill. The PS3 has plenty of life left in terms of excellent games both announced and I'm sure unannounced., 2011 is excellent and I don't doubt there will be lots of game announcements for 2012. But I sort of hope 2012 is the "last hurrah" for the PS3 and that Sony is getting serious about PS4 already.
In terms of the actual performance and graphics of games, the PS3 is just about maxed out already. Killzone 3 was really the only game that could have taken it to another level, and it was really just an evolutionary improvement over KZ2. There will be some little improvements here and there, Uncharted 3 might raise the bar for consoles again, but as far as the every day library of games it's pretty much not going to get better. There are dozens of games that we sort of have to accept comprimises in quality to make them run on console. I.e. black ops being 544P, countless games being 640P, many of the ones that are 720P have no anti-aliasing so look a little jaggy, Unreal Engine games often having pop-up or choppy framerates especially on our platform (PS3).
I don't know about you, but I'm ready for 1080P and for all games to be running at smooth framerates (1080P, 60FPS). GPU's are just now puling that standard off in the PC world for a benchmark game like Crysis, but I'm pretty sure PC's can EASILY do that with Unreal Engine 3 games with much higher specs thanc consoles. HOPEFULLY in 2 or 3 years the technology will be affordable to have these "full HD" standards in an affordable console.

Most games this gen can't do 1080p, and even less can do it with decent AA. Despite what some might tell you, it's pretty evident that the PS3 is reaching it's grapical limits, and as that happens, it's time to start developing the next gen consoles.

The picture you is supposed to say "invalid" not "in valid" which would mean it is in fact correct
I'm going with what I've read & what I've seen...
-PS4 will not be out before late 2015, at the earliest (because of communicated console life cycle of 10 years)
-PS4 will not initially launch with a collection of models & prices, maybe only a couple memory options (one of the biggest/most successful selling points of PS3 is it "only does everything", why would they then upgrade to a model that doesn't do everything!?!)
-PS4 will not be BC (this is how they initially lost $$$ on every PS3 sold; & because Sony is inconsistent on BC in general, their SOP is to try something & dump it if its not profittable enough)
-PS4 may not read physical media disks (the future is all download only, by PS4 not reading disks Sony can charge to download/rebuy old titles AGAIN, just like they are doing with the PS1 games on PSN, the PSPGo & they will do this with the NGP too)

No no no no no no no. Yes the PS3 will last 10 years but that does NOT mean there won't be a console selling alongside it at the same time. The situtation will be the same as it is now with the PS2 selling alongside the PS3.
We're gonna see something major on the PS4 at E3 2012 if not an actual release. Quote me on it.

And you believe that?I hope people arent getting their hopes up about BC because its highly unlikely quite frankly. The only sure fire way would be to go the hardware route like the original ps3 did which would cost a fortune. If you thought $600 was bad think again. Software emulation is probably out the window as well. We barley have functioning emulators for last gens systems. In the end its a lot of time and money spent on outdated stuff.

A 10 year life cycle means that they will support the PS3 for 10 years, not that there won't be a replacement. The PS2 also had a 10 year cycle, but the PS3 came out in the middle of that; the same thing will probably happen to the PS3.The PS2 came out about 6 years after the original PS1. Then, the PS3 came out after about 7 years after the PS2... I think the PS4 will come out after 7 years the PS3 came out so I think the PS4 should come out in late 2014. However, the PS3 will still be supported a couple years after the PS4 is released. I think it is ridiculous to think that Sony would bring out PS4 in less than 6 years of the PS3 debut.
