Yeah, these PSN items getting taxed is pretty stupid. But I read it just depends on where you live. Some have said just fake your address for a PSN ID to an state wheres there's no tax and you're good. Too much of a hassle for me though.

The retail store is not suppose to tax you, it's always been PSN so not really Sony's fault.

It really irritates me too, I'd rather they just tax the card at the store and not when you purchase it from the PS Store, so you can still buy your item from the PS Store and not end up a few cents short, my state used to not have taxes on PS Store items, but just recently, they started to.

That's impossible..and illegal. Gift/Purchase cards should not be taxed. The taxes are applied when you buy things with it. Either you're lying or you got screwed.

my point being, there in now a flaw with PSN cards. last thing i bought in the PSN store was Resistance Retribution, which was 20 dollars, which i paid for evenly with a 20 dollar PSN card. i tried to by the Undead Nightmare DLC pack this evening, which was also 20 dollars, which i also used a 20 dollar PSN card on, only this time my PSN card was taxed 60 cents over. it makes it useless in less i go out and buy another 20 dollar card for 60 cents, this is just horrible. they need to start making 22 dollar cards or something to cover the tax.

The system is flawed. right now though its doesn't matter because i should always have a $1 or so left if i choose to buy somthing. Also Best Buy has the $10 card(lame its not at every retail store) so that helps.

I don't get tax buying the card but i hate how i get taxed when i buy a pre paid phone card. isn't that part of the gift card category section? Funny how i dont get charged the tax when buying at a currency store.

It depends on where you live. It has nothing to do with PSN cards or Sony! I live in Georgia, and I pay no taxes on PSN cards or on the PS Store. It's possible that your taxes have changed in your area... so you need to blame your local government.

bestbuy taxed me on psn card...they insisted it's not a gift card...maybe that's how things work in canada. anyway, i'm using credit card for psn purchase now. it's much simple.

No way, they are making a mistake. I'm Canadian too and I do not pay taxes on my PSN cards ever. I pay them when I buy stuff on PSN. It doesn't matter if it is not necessarily a gift card. You buy other items with it. I buy them at my local Pharmaprix. They just swipe them and charge 20$/50$ straight up no tax.[QUOTE="PSP107"] I don't get tax buying the card but i hate how i get taxed when i buy a pre paid phone card. isn't that part of the gift card category section? Some things doesn't work that way. You bought the service itself when purchasing a phone card. You can't do anything else with it other than use that service. Therefore it's taxed straight away. For PSN cards, you buy a whole range of items and services, and that would be taxed on them instead. This is better TBH, since you don't pay the extra tax for the money that you didn't spend.

try it next time at bestbuy...you will see. it's in their system, they scan barcode...if it doesnt need to be taxed, then they wouldnt tax me. anyway psn card is too much trouble, credit card is better, tho typing on ps3 is slow.

You need to talk to the store clerks, you don't get charged tax when you purchase the PSN card in any store.

You will get taxed on PSN only once you enter the code.

If they refuse to listen to you, ask for the manager, or someone knowledgeable. Otherwise leave the store and purchase it somewhere else..

There is nothing wrong with PSN cards, only terrible business practice of certain retail stores...

I've never been taxed for psn cards in retails like gamestop and vons. Do major electronic stores like Best Buy add tax on psn cards? I'm pretty sure they do.

Most likely the tax laws for your state have recently changed and now you have to pay taxes on such purchases.

You shouldn't be taxed. I used to work at GameCrazy, and it was straight up $20 for a card.

for all the ones that actually tried to help, instead of telling me that i have never used a PSN card to purchase things of equal value ALA using and 20 dollar card and actually being able to use it for something that was the amount of the card, i guess i might just have to make a new PSN. to the ones that actually tired to help, i appreciate it.
