Some people have been complaining about PSP's slow output of hit games this year -- some have gone as far as to say that the PSP is finished and will die off.
Well, PSP remains solid in the sales charts of countries around the world, and 2009 actually may be the PSP's best yet in terms of software, not the worst.
Note that I am only listing games I feel deserve mention, not shovelware or games unlikely to be successful.
Patapon 2
Sequel to the critically acclaimed rythm war game, Patapon 2 looks to be another must have title for the PSP.
Resistance Retribution
Visually, RR looks to rival the best looking games on the PSP. Not only is the hardware being pushed, but RR will be the defining shooter for the PSP thanks to its control system and a plans for an epic wi-fi online play -- including over 20 missions in the single player.
Dissidia Final Fantasy
Another graphical powerhouse for the PSP, Dissidia may well be a bigger hit than the Crisis Core. Who doesn't want to play as the hero and villians of all their favorite FF games? The game is a fighter, but not traditional in any sense. The roster includes characters from FF1 - FF12, and includes a story mode, video editor, and online play.
Phantasy Star Portable
Already proven itself as a hit tile in Japan, PSP for the PSP will be heading to North America in 2009.
Star Ocean: Second Evolution
Yes that super awesome JRPG for the 360 that has everyone talking about has a name for itself for a reason. The 2nd iteration of the SO series, the franchise remakes continue on the PSP.
Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep
Square Enix has been showering the PSP with love lately, and the trend continues in bringing the huge KH franchise aboard the PSP. Whether BBS is released in both Japan and in the west is yet to be confirmed, but still a title too look forward to.
Final Fantasy XIII: Agito
The production values behind this title already seem to be stunning for a handheld, but nothing less is expected from Square's 3rd part of the FF13 collection of games. Once again, 2009 for the west is a only a possibility, but the fact that its coming is quite exciting.
Parasite Eve: The 3rd Birthday
I personally doubt a 2009 release for NA, but might as well put it up there with all the other hot SE titles!
Other titles to keep an eye on:
Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
Dynasty Warriors Strike force
Dj Max Fever
Japan is also getting two fantastic looking titles from level 5:
Ushiro
Horror action RPG, the game looks to have an intense atmopshere and RPG gameplay.
Cardboard Senki
You build your own toy war mech thingies, and battle them.
Lets hope these titles eventaully make it overseas.
+ exciting potential for the newly introduced PSP online store. Expect lots of demos, downloable content, more PSX games, and full PSP downloads.
and of course, the infamous rumours of a Devil May Cry and Gran Turismo Portable will always loom over every year =p.
