I am currently in Germany visiting family and I thought I should buy some PSP games for the flight back to Canada, but I am worried about the games being in German instead of English.

Last time I was in Germany I bought MPO and the game had everything in English (audio, subtitles etc)

My cousin had Scarface here(in Germany) and when I put that into my PSP everything was in German

So now I am worried that some games wont change the language

I am thinking about buying Peace Walker and GoW, so if anyone has any ideas if the language will change to English or can check for me or something I would really appreciate it

Thanks

If I remember. You can choose the language in MGS PW. Probably also in gow.

This is the first problem. You might want to go to amazon.de to try and figure this out. It's hard to do since it doesn't always say on the box cover.

Your second, and bigger, problem is that the German censorship board cuts games into pieces like confetti. So, most likely, you will be playing a censored version. An example of this are the two Syphon Filter games: both cut, gore eliminated, no blood.

German government has an unhealthy obsession with telling their citizens how they can think and what they can play.

(This is the reason why you see so few demos on the German psn store).

I currently live in Germany also and bought God of War here which is, indeed, in English.

Indeed, Germany has censorship issues. Not as much as say England or Australia, but they do cut or alter content. Other than that, in 9/10 cases there's somewhere on the box a mention of the language settings for these problems. But they're not always as visible, as a sold game is better than a not sold game. for instance one of my games had a small circle in the right top corner on the back saying which languages were available. But it's different for every game.

There used to be a site called http://www.schnittberichte.de which used to do side-by-side comparisons of how the German censorship board - all in the interest of protecting the frail youth of its country - butchered games.

Go to the website now, and what does it say: Closed in order to comply with German youth laws!

Luckily, schnittberichte.com is still out there.

My advice to any gamer trapped in the hell of these censorship laws: buy your games via amazon.co.uk.

Games have no lobby in Germany, Germans think games are a form of porn, subverting fragile young flowers and making them go out, buy guns, and run amok.

Thanks for the info, I didn't know that Germany censors so much. I checked Peace Walker at amazon.de and it said English and German so I am guessing it's like MPO, with both languages, and it's rated T soI don't think it is censored at all.

Is GoW censored?

This is sad news since I may be moving to Germany

This is an example of how the German nanny state censors games.

It doesn't matter, the system language won't effect the games'.

if you can't understand the story? it ruins the game.

Almost all German games have English as an option.
