I'm pretty sure you haven't bought the game as well but if you really don't know the regions thing its in whatever part of the world you bought it from, so did you buy it from America, Europe, Asia, or another large region which has not been mentioned?
So you're saying you bought the game in Australia, and a US game save does not work? You need to clarify for us to be able to help. Or you can just try a save from each region until one works...
Oh and game saves probably won't have a virus, though I would advise you not to download anything from any site that you can't trust.(more of a general internet rule really)
I wouldn't do that again, it could kill your PSP, you never know it could have viruses.

No no no. This will not happen if you are downloading from GameFaqs. It has many different region game saves there. There's no way to get viruses on your PSP anyway -_- (except for that old CFW that bricked people =D!)
