I read on cnet that the video out might not work when playing games on analog TVs (non HD). Does anyone have any experience with this? I can't find anything else on this. I've been thinking about getting one, but it's probably not worth it without the TV out.

I don't see how this can be true as the cables that you buy are all analog. There is a composite, an S-Video and a Component cable. From the videos I have seen it should work fine on any TV with video inputs.

Where is this stated on the Sony site? I don't think it is true. They will be having a Composite and S-Video cable too. Check this GameSpot article for more: http://www.gamespot.com/features/6173974/index.html

In the IGN hands-on at the beginning of this month it said you can only play games using component cables. They will also have the other type of cables and you can watch movies etc using these but for games; component cables only. Alot of regular, standard definition tvs have component inputs so unless cnet (basically gamespot right?) is now saying it's also only HDTVs, any tv, as long as it has component inputs, should be ok.

Here's an update. You not only need to use component cables but your tv has to accept pogressive scan signals (which is another way of saying HDTV I guess although sony just says progressive scan) So I was mistaken in thinking just having a regular tv as long as you had the component imputs would work It doesn't. -----the other thing that sucks is the cables are quite short so you'll probably want to get couplers (89 cents each at Fry's so you need 5 of those) and then add on component and av cables...but it doesn't suck as much as having to have a 'progressive scan' tv.
