I have been looking to buy an HDTV lately, and I did, and I was wondering...
A lot of the smaller HDTVs have a native resolution of 720p although they can still scale up to 1080i -- my question is -- what would be the difference between the two? Would the difference be noticable on a 23" HDTV? Thanks to all who respond!!!
720p is what you're going to be using the majority of the time anyway. I have a 32" Samsung CRT that supports 720p and 1080i. The tv itself is natively 1080i, so it has to downscale to a 720p picture if I'm not mistaken. Either way, 720p is great for gaming.
You should be okay with 720p. It doesn't look like there will be as many 1080p games as 720p games cuz of current limitations (maybe in the future w/ further development and understanding of the system it becomes possible). Currently only slower paced games like fighting games and sports games have the ability to go 1080p. As for 1080i, it's good to have but 720p is the way you are gonna want to go since games are typically pretty fast paced. In slower paced games, you would be better off using 1080i.
