SO I'm thinking about d/ling the demo, mainly because I read a while ago that it has new cutscenes... is this true?? I don't wanna waste my time d/ling it, if it's gonna be the same.
And yes, I own MGS4 that's why I'm asking.

after trying the demo i want to know if i need to know the story of other mgs games to fully understand this one.supa_badman
You could probably understand the story fine, but a lot of things that will mean a lot to fans will probably just go straight over the top of your head if you haven't played the others. The story definitely has more impact if you already have knowledge of the series.

Yea at the very least, read up on the main ideas of the first 3.

Or DL the MGS Database and study it till your eyes fall out.

MGS Database would be your best option cause it has everything as far back as the original Metal Gear on NES. The story does go back that far.

Play number 3 though.
I swear to God, if you miss out on Snake Eater and play Guns of the Patriots, you will not get your $60.00 worth.
And your life will suck more.
Metal Gear Solid is an experience, not just a video game.
It's like a semester of any given class; you can't just buy the knowledge.
I dunno I can't imagine knowing half of what is going on if you didn't play the other games. Or at least watched all the cutscenes or something. It's like watching only the third lord of the rings movie while skipping the other two. sa10kun
Which is ok, considering all you really needed to know was that he's trying to destroy a ring.
:P
But still makes sense, because it wouldn't have much of an impact without watching the first two films.

Perfectly said.

I played MGS4 but didn't beat MGS3. If anything, 60 bucks is a steal.

Or unless you read the database and full story anaylisis on the internet.

Yeah, you get the knowledge, but the experience just goes out the window.
It'll become more of an "Oh, ok. That makes sense." game, when it could've been a "HOLY ****. NO ****IN' WAY." game.
[QUOTE="Scianix-Black"]I wonder how big the demo is...
lol "8243 MB Required."
"WHAT?!"
mbrockway
Holy crap, seriously?
No, but that'd be ridiculous lol

Well, someone said there was nothing new... are you 100% positive about this?? cuz I'll hunt you down if not :|
As far as I'm concerned, I didn't see anything new.
It's just one of the levels from the full game. If you had played the full game, there is nothing new in the demo.
I believe the demo isn't as visually impressive as the full game is, that's understandable since it's hard to give away MGS4 demo to represent full game quality.

I am i have beaten mgs4 24 times and it's in it not worth your time thoughHere is a complete retrospective on ALL MGS story lines
*Super Spoiler warnings on these*
http://www.gametrailers.com/game/6748.html
Part one starts from bottom, goes forward to the top.
These should help you out on the storylines a bit more!
even if you do read up on story lines, there is a lot of the game which is dedicated to fans, the last boss fight for example, is just not as impressive without playing mgs1....
i would advise playing the older games, mgs1 might be a little old, its hard going back to older games, i tried it with half-life....
