Having played both games I can honestly recommend both Bioshock and Bioshock 2. Personally, I found the original game to be one of the best games of this generation and I don't even like FPS games that much.
It's a fantastic hybrid of FPS/RPG with great story and superb atmosphere. The game also allows you to combine your shooting and elemental powers to create some superb moments. I wholeheartedly recommend the original Bioshock and Bioshock 2 is a good second iteration as well, although It never really reached the same perfection the first game did, Bioshock 2 is still a very much worthy return to the Rapture.
I believe Bioshock: Infinite will be another success as well. This are rare gems in today overcrowded and overestimated FPS market.
I highly recommend playing both, both have a great and engaging story, excellent gameplay, amazing atmosphere, etc. They are definitely two of the greatest games this generation, two thumbs way up, must play titles.JogsterXL
Get both for sure amazing games... Engaging Story beautiful graphics.
If you've never played Bioshock play it. It's an amazing game. Bioshock 2 is a pretty good game also, no where near as good as the first, but better than a lot of the games this generation.
If you do get the 2nd Bioshock get the Minerva's Den DLC. Well worth it, and to be honest at least from my standpoint the DLC is better than BS2 by itself.
Pretty much what everyone else is saying. Get both. My Fav is the first of course. It's very cheap. Now I'm not sure if you can wait or not but Infinites ships with a copy of Bioshock.
Great games, but one thing to keep in mind - A LOT of people get going in the first game, don't quite see the magic, and give up. Don't. Keep playing it even if at first, you don't see what everyone else here is raving about. You WILL hit a moment in the game (and it's different for everyone) where suddenly, you cannot put the controller down, you think about it when you're away from it, and you cannot wait to get back to it.
I started the game, then put it up when I didn't see, right away, what all the devotion was about. Then, after picking it up again, suddenly, it HIT me. The tipping point is different for everyone, it's not a specific event or power you receive, it's just a personal trigger point where "amazing" slaps you across the face and you're HOOKED like a fish.
There IS a reason why we all love it SO much. MANY reasons. All of them worthy. Pick up the first game, play it, and see if you want to return to Rapture. My bet is, you will. Then after a nice cool-down period, play the second game. Don't jump right into it, play something else between the two games as a sorbet, if you will. I think a mistake people make with the second game, is to jump directly into B2.
:D
Play the first one, let it sink in (no pun intended), then play B2.
Absolutely loved the original Bioshock. Amazing atmosphere and story, probably my fav shooter this gen. Second one lost a little of it's magic, mainly due to the initial wow factor of the first game not being there, but still great game nonetheless.
I have not played the second one, and A LOT of people have been saying that it was disappointing compared to the first one.
I have played the first Bioshock however, and I have to say that the game was absolutely AMAZING! Probably one of my favorite shooters of all time. Rich story, great gameplay, memorable cast of characters, what else could you ask for? :D

Don't listen on its own merits it's a great game.... And it improves upon gameplay from the first title. The Multiplayer is also a blast in my opinion.
