yes it doescrashintome202Yeah Sony would have been crazy to exclude a format that will be used for a loooooong time yet
Arguing with my friend does it play standard dvd's?kreemghandourI hope you were the one that was arguing that the PS3 did play DVDs.
It does, but the DVD image quality is poor compared to most standalone players. If you have other options, don't use the PS3... running the THX video tests included in many DVDs reveals poor quality playback, particularly regarding contrast and brightness. donalbaneum no looks great here. can i have a link because so far all i see is a let down here. you want him to go to his friend and say look i was wrong it does play dvd put it sucks at it don't get it get a 360 instead the dvd player is better. stop with this because my dvd look great and even better my blu-ray movies looks really good too.

What are you talking about? My dvd's look the same on my PS3 as they do on my dvd player which upconverts dvd's.... something must be wrong with your t.v.

Run a THX optimizer on a DVD and you'll see what he's talking about. The PS3 is incapable of running the shadow test.[QUOTE="donalbane"]It does, but the DVD image quality is poor compared to most standalone players. The PS3 is a fairly awful dvd player. It along with the Xbox 360 dvd player are two of the worst possible players on the market (obviously they have other functions that are more important than dvd playback). Both players can not compete with most standalones in the $100 range, and get destroyed in PQ by the mid to higher end sets ($500+), With all the graphical power they have it is only laziness that keeps them from being decent dvd players. Please Log In to post.
