(the thread will be locked) I would say Red Dead unless you are most concerned with amazing co-op as the co-op is better in borderlands, but RDR is an amazing game.
Red Dead is pretty fun, worth picking up. I havn't played Borderlands but I heard mixed opinions about it. Might be worth getting at a low price for the coop? But not over RDR.
RDR is a game I still need to play, and I have had heard amazing things about it. I find for entertainment values, Borderlands is amazing, it has a strong multiplayer co-op either splitscreen or online, a great trophy set; too many weapons to count, some great DLC and lots of reasons to replay the game. As I said I cannot compare it to red dead, but if you come across borderlands at a cheap price, DO pick it up, its well worth £20-£25
RDR is a must have. Borderlands doesn't appeal to everyone but yes its also a good game. I would go for RDR unless you're a big fan of that style of games.
Red dead. I'm going to put my neck on the block here. I've been playing video games now since 1984 and for me this is the best game I've played.

Borderlands my favourite game of 2009, Red Dead of 2010 (until more games come out). Red Dead I much prefer because of the shooting, customisation and third person perspective, but Borderlands is very addictive and the variation in levels, guns, enemies and story is great.
i have to agree that these are different types of games, one is a third person adventure game, the other is an fps rpg, where your character will gain selected attributes, with the experience you gain... both are solid games in their own, but if you have a friend, with whom you'd like to complete the story mode of a game, then go with borderlands, provided that your firend has it too... it is pure fun to play that game online co-op... :)
