I don't think I would recommend one. We sell them at the game store I work at, and they always seem to get returned. Especially PS2s and 360s.

Its hard to say, I really dont think there is a problem because they go through all the testing and such before they are sold.

I'd see where the refurb is coming from. Where I work most things refurb come back.

But it happens in batchs. We've had good batchs, but they are further apart.

I have a refurbished PS3 that I bought from Gamestop when I still worked for them. It was either getting it used with a 15% discount as well or buying it new for $599.99 (this was last July). Yeah it ended up costing me about $460 after taxes. And so far it's been very good to me. It's only the first time I've bought a refurbished the first go around with a newly released system (my first PS2 I bought brand new PS2 originally, got rid of it years down the line, then bought a refurbished, broke it myself, then bought another new silver one). I'm pretty happy with it, however in these cases I tend to buy stuff brand new, but the huge savings for me were totally worth it and it's sitting happily in my living room, accept it's lonely and not being pushed to it's full potential since I don't have an HDTV to go with it. I need to find out if my Samsung PC monitor is HDCP compatible with my PS3 though, as I use my 360 with it for high definition.

The warranty is 30 days. So yeah pretty short. You can buy year long warranties (I'm not sure if they've added longer ones) and if things are still the same since I left GS last July, used and refurbished systems should cost the same. When I was still working there, all PS3's were "refurbished" because they got sent back to the central part of GS in Grapevine, TX to have there harddrives properly erased be the system broken or not. I know used Wii's have their memory and system reset in store now, and I think PS3s are as well now, but I'm not too sure about that either. Best to just ask or call about it. Honestly though I'd just wait for the MGS4 bundle, as now PS3s are cheaper brand new. $499.99 is a nice deal for an 80 GB PS3 w/ Dual shock 3 and MGS4. I bought my PS3 (60 GB North American) kind of early on because I wanted a system before the full backwards compatibility was cut out.

It could because the 20 gig has the EE chip and is getting very rare just like the 60 gig that had the EE chip built in. The 40 gig is really a very stripped down SKU from any other PS3 SKU.

A necessary evil i'm afraid although why on earth they couldn't have included software emulation like in the EU 60GB PS3, it works a treat on most popular PS2 titles and runs all of the PS1 games.
