I went to Gamestop yesterday with the plans of buying Folklore and Quake Enemy Territory. First I am told that Quake was sold out, and I would have to reserve a copy. So I grab a copy of Folklore off their shelf. Usually, their shelf copies are just display copies. However when I present my copy to the clerk, he pulls a game disc from their storage area and inserts into the case thatI gave them. I paid $60 bucks for what feels like a used copy as it was not sealed.

I also scan the store for some PS2 treasures, and found the rare Balder's Gate 2 DA! Then my smile sank when I saw the price. Fifty clams for a used title. What a ripoff. All their used PS3 games are only five bucks cheap than brand new.

I drove to the Walmart across the street, and found plenty of Quake Wars copies, and they had Folklore brand new and sealed. I wish I had purchased it there. Gamestop will continue to get less of my business.

jeffbase33

get used to their prices, I ended up having to pay $40 for a used copy of Fatal frame 3. I also had to pay $35 for Katamari Damacy, (but I only paid $15 for We Love Katamari at game Crazy).

I was told by a Gamestop employee that their prices are a combo of collectors value and supply and demand. I watched some poor sap pay $80 for an old Xbox port of marvel vs. Capcom 2. And a WHILE ago, before they re-printed Dragonball Z Final Bout for PS1, it was for sale in my local Gamestop for a WHOPPING $160...because it was so rare.

Seriously, I only go to Gamestop/EB if I ABSOLUTELY have to, other than that, I have 2 Game Crazys out here, and their prices are WAY better. Go there if you got one

The same thing happened to me. I bought Digital devil Saga 2 for the PS2 which was suppose to be new. I gave him the case and he went in drawer and took out the disk in a paper sleaved case and he put in the case and put a plastic sticker to seal the game to prevent it from opening(just like how you buy a a used game) I get how open the game and the disk is butcharded. The disk was scratched like crazy and there wasa layer of dust or something on the disk that would come off when i tried to clean it. I phoned EB and they order me a new copy and this time it was sealed

I think he sold me a used game forthe price of a new one because i went to EB before and after i purchased the game and the always gave me a new sealed game from behind the glass.

I rarely go to EB anymore I jsut go to walmart for newer games.

Yea and they sell a lot of used games without any original covers. YOu get a butt ugly white paper Gamestop cover in a crappy case. I used to love Gamespot because I would get amazing deals on on dvd boxsets, but since they stopped taking cash, their boxset selection sucks too

Gamestop is trash. i now they tried to pull that "Oh heres the disc put into the display box crap" with me once, but they didnt even have the instruction manual, and they were asking $60 for t anyway. Plus the fact they give you only $20 (currently as of now) for Ninja Gaiden Sigma, to sell it for $54.99 used. That is a 35 dolar profit which is bs. Plus many PS2 games that are used have ridiculous prices like that too. Crappy, trade-in values, and bad prices on about 75% of their inventory. The only reason I go is to reserve a game, since i know it'll be sealed, but other than that nothing else.

I like Best Buy, but their customer service and return policies are ridiculous. Gamestop is great for reserving games. You get it new and sealed if you pre-order.

The question that everyone here needs to ask is not why Gamestop does what they do, but HOW. Here is what I mean. You have a company that pretty much is a top contender when it comes to retail of videogames, which in itself is a multi-billion dollar market. So take Gamestops soaring stock price, take in affect of all their profits, take in affect all the Gamestop chains that currently exist (starbucks anyone) and tell me how they cant establish a way to store BRAND NEW SEALED games in their shops? Have one case for display and a way to store new games somewhere safe and secure? Is this too hard to accomplish? JESUS Save us all!!!!

Couldn't you have just asked the guy to give you one that is sealed? Or you can just go back and return it and buy it from Walmart.

Yeah that's what I hate about them most, too. They basically sell you used games for new price.

Velric

Here, I'll give you a chance. You tell me how that copy of the game being open constitutes it as used.

Stop. You're looking for an argument here. You need to look for one somewhere else where it is actually worth arguing over. He prefers his games sealed. Why do you have a problem with that? He is the ONE paying for it. He was stupid to take the game when he saw the clerk give him the one which he says was already open. He didn't have to buy.

They've been selling the gutted copy as the last copy for as long as I can remember. As a collector for nearly 20 years, I don't think paying full price for a display box that's been beat up is fair, but that's how the system is. You could've just returned your gutted copy and buy a sealed copy from Walmart.

I never shop at Gamestop anymore. They tried to sell me an opened copy of Okami for $50. If I am going to buy a game for that much, it had better be sealed.

If you ever worked in a game shop you would know that you cant be sure if the copy you get has never been used anyway. Even if it is in seal wrap they do that themselves with wrap and a heat gun. So you n00bs who think that means its new think again

Yeah, thats the sad thing. During the early summer gamestop had major deals going, with games like outrun 2 and sonic rush on the psp going for like 10$. Though what they did was they got the games that were supposively new, got the games out of their behind the counter slip-cases, and repackaged them. Exactly why I was cautious at the time.

Back at the wii launch, my wally world opened up nearly 20 some of the wiis just to look at them. Then they sealed them back up. I know this because a pissed off employee quit that day, and told everybody that. Could've lied, but I kindof doubt it. Though I know the gamestop thing was true.

Gamestop love to rip people off especially the used games. only $5 off for a used ps3 game? wtf is dat? it should be atleast $15 off. I usually go to best buy now to purchase my games.

I didn't realize that BG 2 was rare. :) Cool. In any case, if they do give you an open disc, just refuse it. I've done that many times and they try to convince me that it's new and la di da, but I just say, no thanks and walk out. it's that simple really.

Gamestop is a joke. I usually buy my games at Best Buy. Not because of their service because their employees are some of the dumbest I've ever seen, but because of the rewards program

You know, the only reason that Gamestop is still around is because you people shop there. It's up to the consumer to regulate where the games are sold. I have been very happy with Best Buy and I will never shop at Gamestop again in my life. It's really that simple, don't shop there and they will close down. Boycott!!

All Gamestop bashers PM me and I'll answer your questions

but first none over any of these

1.why do they sell open games are they used being sold new? No we open games just to show we have them instock

I think you can figure out why the disk aren't out on the floor.

2. why do they sell used games for 5 dollars less then new? Easy People buy them, Plus you have a week to return used if you dont like the game.

3.why do they always try to get me to reserve games? because if you reserve it you probally get the game their.

4.why do they force this edge card thing on me? because the mag is supposed to make you more excited about games you might have missed. and if you get a discount theirr you might not shop anywhere else for games. by the way discount is worth it

5.why do they always tell me to get this game n this system blah blah blah? because alot of people that shop their aren't game savy or are and just looking to play a fun game they might have missed.

2nd part of answer to number 5. because they are no different then any of the people on this site they all have their own preference in games and consoles. if you don't like what they say don't listen or shop somewhere else.

6.why do some of the workers spread lies and rumors? because they read the same crap as you feel free to correct them

ask for their source and tell them yours same rules apply here. or if you really feel pissed off tell a Mgr.

7. why do they give jack crap for games on trade? 1st it's called a buisness and second most other stores give less

some exceptions. who really wants a madden game from 6 years ago seriously theirs a new 1 every year.

Power to the Players

That can happen anywhere not just Gamespot. No offense but you just need to use better judgement, if you feel your getting ripped off then buy elsewhere.

I usually go to my local EB game store before going anywhere else looking for any game or console. When I was shopping for my PS3 and PSP that was the first place I went to although they were out of stock at the time and wasn't sure when they would get the next shippment so had to go elsewhere. When I am wanting different/new games I go there first to see if they have the game I am looking for. I found that other retailers sell repackaged games for about 20 to 50 % more than EB does. Circuit City comes to mind when it comes to this practice. And you don't know if the game is used or new or if the disc is in good shape or is it scrached like crazy or is the manual in the box or not.

I'm sorry to hear that you don't pay attention when you spend your money. Second, this is not a forum to post your problem, this is a PlayStation 3 forum where folks discuss games and news.

Since you have issues with Gamespot itself, bring you complain to their costumer service, not here.

Hope you get your issue worked out.

as much as possible i try not to buy any games from eb. I only buy when the price is really cheap
