Rock Band Guitar Problem

Question, just bought Rock Band and I cannot get my guitar to work right. It will not let me use the tilt to use the star power. My buddy had it work two times out but not consistantly. Anyone else have this problem or can tell me what I am doing wrong?

Yeah i said screw it and im sending it in for a new one. I cannot get comfortable with hitting the select button.
