This is a prety serious rumor, if it were actually true I know a lot of members in the Sony community will errupt from this.

Im sure its not EA. I would be looking more at Valve, Gabe is an Xbox Fanboy. Its unmistakable that if he could he would do anything to slow down PS3s progress

I doubt it to be honest, EA has pretty universal with everyone you know being a genuine good company to ps3 and 360 plus there wasn't big evidence.

While i'm not so sure if its valve what is there not to understand, everyone knows gabe is pretty lazy in terms of software not supporting ps3 and using the same old engine for ages.

its not really a rumor super_secret from n4g works for sony. he predicted many things like update 2.80, the ps3 slim and also check out this link the code that he wrote was deciphered. http://www.ps3center.net//news/3566/rumor-ea-preventing-universal-ingame-voice-chat-on-ps3/ and here is the full article on n4g about what he said. http://forums.n4g.com/Cross-game-chat-and-why-it39s-currently-MIA-m700070.aspx

yeah Newell even said that the PS3 is, "a disaster on many levels ... I'd say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a do over. Just say, 'This was a horrible disaster and we're sorry and we're going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it'."

How is EA "holding back" universal in-game voice chat and music?

I find it funny how people are saying it's EA without any support. The atricle just says a company that is big. EA is not the only company that is big. There is plenty of other companies that could havle done this. Activision maybe? They did try the whole if you don't cut down the price we won't support the PS3 thing so why would anyone doubt they didn't do the same thing before? I find it funny how everyone quickly jumps and blames EA for no reason without getting any proof.

Do you actually think Valve would have ANY sway over Sony's actions whatsoever? EA is one of the few companies I think is large enough to actually have an influence, and I'm STILL not willing to believe it.

The question is...Why the HELL would EA prevent it?

Anyways, I doubt it.

My guess is that it would make it's games look "inferior" to others on the ps3 if it didnt have in-game voice chat. I would be pretty upset if I owned a huge game publishing company to find out that my games would not work with in-game voice chat against my competitors.

Yes thats what super secret said, that a big company said that theyd drop support becase they felt inferior because one of their games(Harry Potter, EA) didnt support cross game chat.

In order for cross GAME chat to work, all GAMES need to support the cause. EA is apparently on the "not-supporting" side. And that goes hand in hand with music as well.

Cant all the companies that do support cross game chat and in game music just exclude EA from the list then?

I would assume no because Sony has yet to implement the feature. But I don't see why that is not possible.

from a personal perspective: it doesn't matter one way or the other as in-game voice chat is something i don't care about... from a general perspective: if true, this would definitely create a lot of commotion. But I'm still confused as how EA's potential defiance impedes the voice-chat and music features universally. Does Sony need to get EVERY SINGLE dev to sign off in order to release this firmware? that sounds like a bit too much... wouldn't this just apply to EA games? if not, this would truly be an a-hole move on EA's part. I'm skeptical of the validity of this rumor, but it may always be more than a simple fabrication...

Considering Sony adopted this "per dev policy", how could EA hold those features back for everyone else? It would only apply to EA games.
