I once read that Ice silver PSP systems are painted silver, which can chip off and show the black casing underneath. Is that bogus or has anyone else had issues with their PSP "chipping paint"? I've personally never seen one in person other than through packaging.

I don't know if it's true or not but why would anyone paint a light color like silver over black instead of white? Especially when they have white PSPs. That portends bogusness or idiocy.

I've never seen pics or anything, so this is just from one persons account that I read. I can't imagine them painting silver on black either.

I've heard the same rumor from a couple of places.

Honestly I would think it would be a silver colored plastic faceplate, not a painted on.

As a model painter the silver on black theory works a bit for me. I do it in models when i want the silver, red, etc to come out with a darker appearance without having to mix the paint. But for something titled Ice silver it would make more since to basecoat in white then do silver for a nice "shiny" bright appearance

Its not painted, its clearly the platic that is colored silver. What we clearly have here is a few DS fanboys trying to hurt PSP sales...no big deal, nothing to worry about ;)

False...the ice sliver is not paint....the plastic itself is sliver in colour.

I had a feeling it was plastic. I couldn't see the reasoning in painting a handheld system.

Even if it was, why would it matter? If it doesn't hinder you from gameplay and isn't harmful to you why should any one care..

I'm in the market to get a slim. I prefer not to shell out 200$ for something that is inferior in workmanship than the original black Unit. Although it seems to be a rumor, I'm leaning more towards the core pack.

i agree with you motherboop. if youre gonna spend 200 on something you damn well want it to work.

i have the silver and it is silver plastic with a smooth clear coating over it. no worry about anything chipping off of it and smudges/scratches will be very hard to see if they do happen.

All you have to do is open up the battery cover to see that the back of the case is silver. It is not black painted silver.

Not true, atleast in my experience. I have had my silver psp for over a year now and it looks just as good as the day I bought it.
