Rumour: Ratchet & Clank next for the HD remake treatment

Rumour has it the PlayStation 2 instalments of Ratchet & Clank could be making their way through the HD transformer and into the current generation.

According to the 'Rumour Machine' column in the latest issue of Official PlayStation Magazine UK, "The Ratchet & Clank games may be next for an HD re-release."

The Insomniac Games created duo first emerged back in 2002 for the PS2, with multiple sequels – two of which were released on last generations dominating console – and spin-offs following. Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One is currently in development at Insomniac, and is due to launch for PS3 later this year.

Both characters will also feature in Nihilistic Software's PlayStation Move Heroes when it releases later this month.

Oh hell yeah. Please let this rumor be true. I love the Ratchet and Clank series, so I'd definitely be up for some HD remakes.

Seriously Ratchet and Clank is ok and i'll probably get the collection eventually but these HD collections seem to be going in the order of least interest to more interest (besides ico collection i REALLY want that). If jak collection and KH collection were released i'd be completely nsatisfied until then i wait =(

I'd like to try out the old Ratchet and Clank games, so I'm interested in this.

Cool. Probably wouldn't get it (already have 'em all on the PlayStation 2), but cool. Wonder if the online modes of Up Your Arsenal and Deadlocked would be updated to work on PSN. If they did, that might be reason enough for me to pick it up.

I think there will be more remakes. But it will mostly be the major franchises. Keep in mind there is probably only a couple of years left in the PS3 lifecycle and we've only had a handful of "HD remakes" even released (or pending release) so far. I feel like if we got 20 "collections" by the end of 2012 we'd be pretty lucky (those that are looking forward to them anyway). I'm holding out hope for Dark Cloud 1&2, Kingdom Hearts 1&2, Shim Megami, etc. Sadly RPG's are probably the least likely, because they would seem to require more effort to actually improve them. A set like Metal Gear would seem to be obvious, but it's up to Konami. I think Ratchet is just another one that was "obvious" that it had to be coming because it's a Sony title.

This is perfect, every year I at least need to play a Ratchet & Clank game and A4O doesn't look at the impressive.

Plus, the PS2 Ratchet & Clank games easily blow the PS3 ones out of the water, it's not even funny how much better they are.

I would buy this in a heartbeat if this is true, Ratchet was one of my 1st PS2 and PS3 games.

I never played any of the old ratchet and clank games but was interested anbd if it came out i may just get it. But will this just be 720p with trophies like the last couple of HD remakes or will they go for 1080p or can't the ps3 can't handle rendering a last gen game at 1080p i don't see why it couldn't do so. Well anyways depending on price i might just go for buying the original ps2 games and playing them on my pc in 1080p. The games are cheap on amazon and will just buy one at a time as i likely won't be playing all 4 games in a row.

Can't wait. Still waiting on Konami to announce the Metal Gear Solid collection and then a Jak and Daxter collection would be great (with a teaser trailer for Jak 4 pleeeeeease, Naughty Dog). ;)

Square-Enix is already publishing Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider HD trilogy so they've obviously expressed interest in these collections. Plus, Tetsuya Nomura has said he's considered the idea of remaking Kingdom Hearts on the PS3 but he doesn't have enough time right now (which is why I think it'll happen next year).

I wonder... Can they make this 2 discs? Have the first 3 games (which I consider the main games from PS2) on one, and then Deadlocked, Size Matters and Secret Agent Clank on another as sort of bonus games? Since the two PSP games have already been ported to PS2, it is certainly possible that they could do this. That would be one badass collection.

I would so buy this in an instant. Even though I have these games on PS2, I would like to see an updated version of them. Aren't remakes cost only $40? That is a perfect price for 4 or 3 of the Ratchet games

i have the GoW and SLY collections. going to pick up the splinter cell and ICO collections as well

a R&C collection will be a must buy for me. A Jak and Daxter collection is what i'm waiting for the most
