oh without a doubt it looks better-I cant really show you-but I have a 20" TV (standard def) and the colors are sharper and the image is clearer-and S-Video is cheap-its worth it. Im assuming its cheap since well the official Component Vid cables are $20...which is not bad at all (I have a set of those and its great...

Unfortunately, I am one of those poor folk who can't dish out for a 1080p HDTV just yet so when I got my PS3 I hooked it up to my old Sharp 27" standard TV. At first I had it hooked up by the regular composite cables that came in box, and then I ran out to Best Buy and bought a set of PS2 S-Video cables (since they work with the PS3, and it was the highest connection my TV supported). Instantly I noticed the difference with Resistance Fall of Man. The graphics are a lot sharper, and everything is more visible on screen. I can only imagine how nice it must look with a component or HDMI setup on a television that supports higher resolutions. I definitely recommend picking up the S-Video cables, if that is the highest that your television can support. You won't be disappointed, and I think you'll notice the difference.
