It'll work fine like that. You can change the display settings.

if you set your screen settings at 720p only. then your br movies will play at 480p. so make sure you have your screen settings to accept 720p and 1080i. as for games i only been playing 720p games, so i couldnt tell you

you can play them in 720p or 1080i what ever floats you boat you'll be good trust me but it should scale normally right to 1080i your highest hd but you can change the setting on your ps3 and tv to keep it 720p. have fun with the ps3 when you get it!

well, every review, and like 30 people all stated that the ps3 cant play BD in 720P, it scales up to 1080I if your TV supports it, or it scales it down to 480P if it doesnt support it.

Actually, no it will not. At least not without an external scaler.

No it doesn't.  Blu-Ray movies either play in 1080p, 1080i or 480p, there's no 720p support right now.  Games are fine in 720p, but not Blu-Ray movies.

Okay why do people lie so blatantly for no reason. Anyone who has a PS3 and has used it to play BluRay movies will know that it won't play 720p. Does lying make this guy feel good.

no it doesn't. You TV might display it in 720p, but the PS3 does not output it at 720p. the PS3 will only output blu-ray movies at 1080i and 1080p.

Technically that's not a lie. It would be his opinion as he's stating a preference. If I say the sky is red I'm a liar. I say the sky would look better red instead of blue then I would not be a liar, since I'm stating an opinion of preference.

Fact stays that 720p was introduced due to supperior image quality at a time where they couldn't make good enough TV tubes for 1080p (which always has been the difinition set for HD TV).

that's not a lie. for still images and slow moving scenes/games, 1080i looks better. it has about twice the amount of pixels on the screen than 720p does. more pixels = better picture.

720p exists because fixed pixel displays like LCD's and Plasmas don't produce native interlaced images. It was either 720p or 1080p.

Not when it comes to jitter, there's a reason why PC monitors are p-scan. Do not forget who on this board was the one to tell people about the difference between interlaced and progresive scan in high paced games. It existed before and claiming that LCD pannels can't do interlaced is just plain wrong. :)

he didnt say it couldnt do it, he just said its not native on them, just clearing that one up. but the interlaced vs. progressive is no contest for moving images, progressive wins

you need to learn to read better. I stated that in slow-paced scenes and games and still image viewing, 1080i is better because it has better picture quality. Then you state which one is better for high paced games. Do you see the difference? and the other poster didn't claim that LCDs and Plasmas can't do interlaced. he said that they couldn't do them NATIVELY. again, you didn't read.
