Glad I already have a PS3, the 60 GB one! The removal of BC actually makes sense to me though. When the PS3 first came out, there were very many games for it (like every Console Sony releases). So sony included the backwards compatibility to allow users to still buy and play PS2 games on the PS3 since the PS2 has a bigger library. Now that the holiday season is close, we all know of the tons of games that are coming out and the many of us will be broke and still need to grab PS3 games. I understand why Sony removed as there are a ton of games coming out this holiday season.
Heck, I don't even play PS2 games anymore... I got too many games for my PS3 and alot more are coming out in the next few months, I'm not going to have time to play PS2 games if you ask me. Warhawk already takes up most of my time and the only game that is PS2 being played on my PS3 is Sly 2 because of my wife. She is only playing that because she is waiting for Ratchet and Clank Future, so when that game comes out my PS2 games will be collecting dust or will be in the hands of Gamestop employees so I can use their credit to get more PS3 games ;)!
A wise decision in removing the card readers, I don't even use mine. I also don't even use more than 2 usb ports at a time, so thumbs up for that. Backwards compatibility is not such a big deal, great way to bring down the price is removing it I believe and that's what they did. I mean, I got my PS3 to play PS3 games, If I wanted to play PS2 games I would have kept my PS2. Now no BC for Ps2 games doesn't actually mean you won't be able to forever. I'm sure you can still play PS1 games still because Sony made a full featured emulator that doesn't depend on Ps1 parts in order to run games. Are you thinking what I'm thinking?I'm pretty sureSony right now is making a full fledge PS2 Emulator that can run PS2 games without any PS2 hardware, it's not a matter of if but a matter of when because I'm sure Sony is fully capable of implementing the emulator into a firmware update ;)!
Sony took a gamble and I think they gained all the money in this game of chance, $399 is a great price point and competes well with the Pleasefixme's price point. Some may be disappointed that PS2 BC is removed but it may return later as an emulator made by Sony. Everyone is looking at this as the glass half empty instead of the glass half full. Cheaper price means more people are going to buy the console, more people to play against online, and more better games will come because developers will see that the PS3 fanbase has grown substantionally over this great price reduction. Not alot of people have great pay jobs or have rich parents, this is a perfect price for new people to grab a PS3 at $399!
This is also a first in history for Sony to drop a price of their gaming systems down so much too in less than a year. PS2 and PS1 when they first came out didn't drop their $399 price tag until a year after launching and they kept dropping a $100 or less every year after that. But $200 less than the original asking price of the PS3 in less than a year sounds like a good deal to me and probably to alot more others. Aren't you sick of playing games online with a limited base to play against like Resistance and Fear? This could really help us gain more people to go up against online, to chat with, to have more firends and clans... This will truly help the PS3 crowd to grow extremely large or at least a level ground as the other guy. Sony is sure biting the bullet for this one but it will surely help in sales and gain developers and game companies to change their mindsin making games on PS3 because the fanbase will be growing soon, I'm sure of it!
