I haven't seen this spoken about yet, so I guess I'll be the first to bring it up. I dunno if anyone else has noticed, but the PSP GO is lacking a removable battery. At first glance this seems arbitrary, and even beneficial as Sony has stated that it is to reduce piracy, but it actually is a serious problem. A non removable battery has some serious issues:

-No extended battery (The psp has a solid battery, but overtime it wears down, but we will no longer be able to extend it ourselves)

-Battery issues require item to be sent to sony (Similar to the first point, rather than be able to just buy a cheapo replacement, any battery issues will require you to ship your PSP Go off to sony)

-Sony is hiding something (The psp 3000 rejected any form of a "pandora" battery, and it still hasn't been cracked to this day. Why does sony feel the need to take the protection a step further, and in the process, hurt legitimate customers.)

The last point really upsets me. Sony is taking a unnecessary precaution that only hurts the appeal of the PSP Go. So what does everyone else think about this?

What... are you HIGH???

Sony has taken a five year bath on the PSP because of pirates, modders, and other forms of muckin' around with their hardware AND software. In my opinion, Sony should be out with a gun shooting every dumb hacker punk in the head and then castrating them with a dull spoon. You make it sound like Sony has some sort of neffarious intent by trying to eliminate the sources of damage to their product and it's revenue.

There's no Area 51, there's no cover-up, and by the way Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny don't exsist either. Get over it.

Harsh much? Look, the PSP 3000 has handled piracy protection fine so far. Why remove a feature when your last product removed the problem altogether? It just doesn't make sense. Oh, and on the topic of piracy, the nintendo DS has even higher piracy rates (run one ebay search for any ds game and you'll see loads of bootlegs) and you don't see Nintendo crying foul and cutting features as a precaution. Face it, sony is trying to make up for its mistakes, and in doing that they are taking some unnecessaryprecautions and hurting the consumer in the long run.

I'm not worried one bit...for one, I always buy the extended warranty, which will cover battery replacment (ie: new PSP go), but if I had to send it to SONY I would...I woudlnt crumble because I was without my PSP for 1-2 weeks. Also, every Ipod ive ever owned has not had a removable battery.

Not a worry. Def not a make or break...and every Nintendo handhelds, or PSP 1000 ive owned, ive never had one battery problem. I'm so willing to take that risk.

I understand what you are saying, but in my experience I've had problems with rechargable batteries. Two Ipod batteries (a mini and a video) got to the point where an overnight charge lasted 30 minutes and a my PSP battery died. It really comes down to the person, their charging habits, and how much they value extended play time. I just feel like Sony hasn't given enough of a warrant to make me accept the removal of what is an important aspect of a handheld to me.

To stonehenge: I read the first sentence of your second post and stopped. I'm trying to have a civilized discussion here, and for some reason you think anyone who has an opinion that differs from yours is a troll, and you feel the need to rip their head off. Chill out, it's a forum. I'm not here to make Sony look like Nazi's. I'm just trying to figure out why sony would remove the option of something as important to a handheld as extended battery life.

Sony did do better on piracy with the 3000 but they're trying to completely stop piracy on the Go (I'm sure people will find some way though) with a non-removable battery. Piracy is a huge issue for Sony, since they've admitted they lost tons of money from it.

For those supporting the internal battery, enjoy buying more than 1 overpriced PSP GO.

Yeah, because there is no service option. I assume you and the TC are equally traumatized over the Dualshock3 not having a user-replaceable battery?

Ha nice try. Dualshock 3 is a console controller so if the battery were to break being forced to plug it in wouldn't be nearly as much of a hassle as having a dead battery for a PORTABLE gaming system.

i use my psp 2000 every day for multiple hours till the green lights flashing then i put it on charge and repeat the same thing over and over. when i get a new game i abuse my psp's charge beyond imagination. i am surprised it hasn't over heated or anything like xbox360 does. i have enough trust in sony. if my psp 2000 can last 2 years without giving me any single trouble, i am sure psp go will work just fine. i don't know why people freak out about new options. sony isn't trying to hide anything here. people took advantage of sony for years. i am just glad they did not totally shut of production for the psp. i wonder what kind of a b*tch fest that would have started. anyway back to the topic, if you think psp go is not for you because you cannot replace the battery, then by all means don't buy it. people that want to buy it can do their own research and buy it if they want. and i don't think any of us here really cares if you buy psp go or don't buy. this "psp go sucks" threads popping up is getting mighty tiresome. isn't there an official thread you should be posting in?? post there cuz i stopped checking that thread since it started.

*sigh* Look, I never said the PSP Go sucks. I was just bringing up something I found, and thought I'd share it. I'm genuinely interested in a PSP Go, but if I'm going to shell out the premium price for it I'm going to use all its capabilites. That means games, music, video, and phone (skype + bluetooth = new phone, woo!). But it is alarming when sony is advertising this as an-all-do media device, but doesn't give us the option of extending the time we can use it on the go.

i do agree with you on this point of not being able to carry an extra battery when you are travelling and being able to switch it when your battery dies down and there is no way of charging it. i think that option is always a good thing. i don't own an ipod but i think ipod's have the same deal of not being able to change batteries. so i guess if ipod's are like that which is an ultimate portable mp3 player, i guess we just have to get used to travelling with a psp with one single battery charge.

Ive already preordered the go and I will say that the internal battery only bothers me slightly. I think I can go a day on a single charge. Ive also had my launch psp from day one and ive only had to replace my battery once as I have played it a lot in the past 4 years.

The thing that is really going to upset me is that when (not if, but when) I do have to replace the battery or buy a new psp will my games that are on the internal memory going to be transfered or stay with me. I really dont want to have to buy all these games a third time around.

You can download games over and over again as far as I know as long as you have the account ID and password. I've re-downloaded a lot because I've had numerous PSP and PS3 consoles break down on me.

Also: Plugging in a broken Dualshock to charge won't "fix it." If that worked, you could just recharge your broken PSP battery to "fix it."
