I have yet to play Heavy Rain, here's the story, I sent my mother, who happens to be a conservative christian to purchase my copy and one of Star Ocean as well for me because she was in a business trip to los angeles and Games are 105% more expensive in our country, prices can go as high as 130$ for a single game here. She just called me very outraged because the woman at gamestop that picked the game from the shelve asked her "how old her kid was" right before checking the game at the cashier my mom replied that her son was an adult, and as far as I heard from my mom the cashier told her that her son despite being an adult had a very unhealthy taste for video games because the title I asked her to pick up for me featured sex, explicit use of drugs and the most hardcore violence and gore the industry had ever witnessed...imagine the reaction of my mom, somebody who has absolutely no knowledge of video games aside from Mario, Wii sports and Wii Play and cares very little about the hobby as a whole and is extremely conservative about sexuality and vice. Long story short, my grand father which is a man just as conservative as she is in those aspects went with her to the store and both agreed that for my own good, it was better to only purchase my copy of Star Ocean but not Heavy Rain.

I haven't read that many reviews for heavy rain, I'm buying this game based on the recommendation of friends, trailers and my own hype for it, I haven't read Gamespot's Review, Nor IGN's nor watched Gametrailers video review in order to keep myself from running into a big *** spoiler, does Heavy Rain actually contain Obscene Sex Scenes, Explicit use of Drugs and Hardcore Violence or what? Im buying the game online one way or another, I can purchase stuff from U.S amazon and have the game mailed to my country by a third party company that takes care of the international shipping and all. But you know... Damn it, I wanted to play the game next week.

Before anyone comes to say LULZ your mommie didn't let ya play teh heavy rainz because of teh violence, my mother and I have a very close relationship and same with my grandfather, I respect their christian beliefs, Im also a christian at heart although nowhere near as conservative as they are, they didn't buy it because they thought it wasn't good for me, first and foremost and second, because not buying a copy of a video game is absolutely no big deal, and finally they thought that after that description of the game they told me over the phone was going to turn me off about it. Just to be clear :).

Again, does the game contain that kind of thing for real? I'm already dead set on buying it either way.

how old are you? it's rated M in NA, if you are under 17, you shouldnt play it anyway. beside you wouldnt feel touched of story if you are too young.

There's a sex scene, which in my opinion is barely quantifiable as such... nudity is a definite yes though. Violence, also a yes. Drug use....optional. Gore? Not really... Disturbing elements, yes. It's obviously not a game for children, but if you've spent any time watching R-Rated films your not in for any shockers.

Well thats awfully rude. Anyway yes the game does include nudity, drugs, and a pretty good degree of violence. But thats part of the core story.

hey im 15 BTW and i loved Heavy Rain. Ive been hyped for it for 2 years and ive been wanting a good mature story in a game for quite a while, mainly because of my love for the Metal Gear series which has a huge emphasize on story. As for being touched by it, yes the game did a good job of doing that as well.

pretty much this. I mean i'm sure you've played other games that are just as bad. Frankly if i were the cashier and i was told the person was of age, i'd of dropped it there. if i found out that the recipient was like 12 or younger... then yeah... i'm gonna let them know...

you should call the manager of that gamestop and get that employee fired for not minding her own business. that employees job is to inform your mother what the game contains, not over exaggerate things and tell her how to raise her children.

ive met one of these employees before. she was explaining the whole thing about GTA and why its bad. she was so persistent and determined. i just smiled the whole way and bought the game anyway. hilarious.

oh yeah. and shes also a danger to the company by causing it to lose sales. another reason to send her ass off.

Op, I laughed when you mentioned that the one at the cashier said that you have a bad taste in games, she has a job to sell games to the customer, but yet she is giving her point of view? This is ridiculous.

Im 20 years old, but my mother decided not to pick it up for me because that sort of content in a video game goes against her principles, I also think it was very funny, to think the store lost a purchase because a cashier talked too much despite the fact that my mother told her I was an adult.

And also I agree with this guy... She needs to mind her own business. I live in LA and the people at gamestops around here are usually cool... I mean you get the ocasional deuschwho will give you a hard time about buying anM rated gamebut they're not usually as bad as the lady you mentioned aboved. I mean who is she telling your mom you have a bad taste in games and why would she assume she was buying the gaming for someone else anyway its none of her business.... :(

In this case, as an adult, you should just buy games online and import them to your country. After this, I def know you won't be asking your mom to do this for you again for another game if its rated M, at least I wouldn't if that happend to me.

The clerk needs to mind her business. Did you get a receipt with Star Ocean? It should have a customer feedback number you can use to file a complaint online with. An employee who talks customers out of sales based on a personal agenda is not one that store needs to keep employed. Anyone who cannot separate personal feelings from expected work duties doesn't deserve to have a job at all.

What the...? What is happening? Why so harsh?

A 20 year old man is in college and some family went to buy him some games. The Female Cashier talked his conservative, up in years grandparents out of what she felt was a nasty, graphic game.

Lame cashier, but why are you telling him to get a life? What did he do wrong. He brought us a story, it's something to read.

^This. Note that on the recepit it should also contain the name of the Gamestop employee who sold your mother Star Ocean.

He said he was twenty. The issue was not with him being underage, but a combination of a nosy Gamestop employee and a bible thumpin' Konservative Kristian mother.

What's with all these mean responses? Is it because he's a Christian or what? As far as I can tell, he just asked his mom to get him a copy because it was expensive locally...What's wrong with that?

its nothing more than a 14A action/drama movie... Should be fine... and its not just nudity or sex for the sake of nudity or sex.. it feels appropriate in the setting as the game just feels "grown up"

I'd like to mail that cashier a box of dog****. I wish Gamestop clerks would just shut up and mind their business sometimes. I remember when I bought my first PS3 game there (in '08) they totally ragged on me and told me how bad the PS3 sucked and that I should get an Xbox and all that crap. Now the one of those tards that still works there is a good friend of mine and totally rags on the 360 now. Go figure. Anyway, this also reminds me of a time I went in there and a boy was picking up Bayonetta and his girlfriend was paying for it. The clerk asked if she knew there was partial nudity in the game because she may find it offensive. That chick totally blew up at her boyfriend! She slapped him on the back of the neck like six times! I looked at that clerk like "see wtf you did!?" That was so funny, tho. Your case, TC, isn't very funny at all. If and when you ever do get a chance to pick the game up..... GET IT!

Wow. Cashier's for Gamestop in the US seem like douches trying to prevent sales. The most you get here is the asking of age and that's it. Anyway, look for a deal online mate and import the game or wait for the local retail price to drop.

I remember when I went to purchase GTAIV (I think I was 15 or 16 at the time; not sure which) with my dad, the cashier did a very similar thing. He went on about how there was drug use, violence, sex, crime, and such littered all over the game. He basically told my father everything that the game was rated M for, complete with exaggerations and fabrications. We literally stood there for 4 minutes as he went on and on, holding onto my freaking game and waiting for my dad to give the "I'll put it back, thanks". But my dad did something else. He told the cashier to "stop talking and ring the ****ing game up." I asked him later in laughter as we walked back to the car with the game why he just ignored the guy's speech. "You're not stupid enough to let a game influence you." he said.

Ugh. The trolls are on active today. I'm not sure if it's because their mommies didn't properly train them when they were young (if they are an adult) or if they're just illiterate and didn't bother to read the original post in its entirety. I'm just glad that the low post count of theirs represent their integrity. The TC asked an honest question. It wouldn't kill you to answer without the bull you seem so used to spewing. - Symphonycometh Yes TC, there is nudity, but in 3 scenes max, and none of them last long. On top of that, the drug usage is a story element which is based on your choices in the game. And finally, the violence. It's meant for you to think and feel emotions, it's not meant to be some gore-fest. So it's not as bad as you (or your mother) may have imagined it. Sorry to hear you had to go through that mate.

If I was your mum I would've said to that check out chick "Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn!" I have always wanted to say that.

But seriously I don't believe in censor ship (I'm 14) mainly because I don't feel the ravenous urge to take drugs when I see them in a video game

This is the one thing they should really care, if you are capable of handling the stuff in the game... and we normally do.

There's nothing terrible or over-the-top in at all. Sex, violence, and drugs play a part in the game, but none of them are over-bearing. There are some disturbing scenes, but again, nothing that is shocking or revolting. If this were a movie it would be R-rated in America for sure, but would probably be considered quite tame compared to other forms of media.
