Saw some footage of the campaign and it looks fun but with a short campaign (maybe 10 or so hours long) and main foucs on multiplayer, it looks more of a renter or bargain bin pickup. Anyone paying full price for this?

i'm renting from redbox. also, redbox has a current promo for $1 off a rental. it's only $2 per day. i just don't buy shallow generic short shooters, and should be able to finish this for just $3.

Lol, I feel you. I knew from all the multiplayer hype Rockstar was making, the single player campaign wouldn't be worth $60 plus tax. I usually buy games after price drops but I may look into that redbox deal. Thanks for the info.

I never rented games before. I've heard you can't rent the same game twice from redbox. Is that true? I thought of renting but I usually just end up youtubing games to see if they're worth the time and then wait for a good deal.
Dragon's Dogma, based on the demo is another game I'll youtube and see what it has to offer. From the over top combat / pawn management and the boring exploration from I've seen in extended trailers, I'll probably keep my wallet closed for that one.
How can you tell if the campaign will be short? Did you see partial footage or the entire playthrough?
Gxgear
Mostly the entire playthrough. 14 chapters I think each with a 3 - 5 minute cutscene intro, graphic novel style followed by some decent set pieces for run and gun / cover mechanics. Nothing you haven't seen before if you are familiar with 3PS games. I'm sure you'll finish it within a few days if not the same day of purchase.

You watched an entire game from start to finish before playing it?
Gxgear
Why not? Better than watching tv, way more reliable than any site or player reviews and I didn't watch it all in one sitting. Not the entire playthrough but pretty much most of it. I have no plans of buying it Day 1. Plus if I pick it up later at a bargain bin, seeing a playthrough wouldn't spoil any fun for me since it's story is a run of the mill action flick story with forgetable characters. If it was something I was really looking forward to playing, no way would I watch an entire playthrough. I'll definitely watch the 1st few stages of any game I'm anxious to play just to make sure it's not a waste of money.
o_o Also, why do you type in a different font and colour? Makes it difficult to read and is really annoying.
Gxgear
Just my personal preference. There's people on here who type in brighter fonts than mine where you have to highlight it if you have a white background setting.
But yeah, it's an action game isn't it? Usually around 10 hours long give or take I assume. Don't know a lot about the game but that seems the usual for action games these days which is unfortunate. A well done, fleshed out action game would be nice.
Gxgear
Yeah, something like Uncharted 2 where you can tell ND took their time and put thought and care into the campaign, back before multiplatyer became the gravy train it is today. Whenever game trailers hype up multiplayer and devs are announcing season passes before launch, don't expect much out of single player. Hopefully, The Last Of Us will be well done and fleshed out good. Max Payne 3 looks fun, but not something I would pay $60 plus tax for from what I've seen.
what did u expect bro honestly? welcome to the sorry @ss mp obsessed sucky days of modern gaming.. whenever i read that dreaded word *multiplayer* mentioned in a preview of a game i immediately know its gonna suck balls and stay away from it. one of the best examples is a game called *syndicate* it was a total blast to play while it lasted, but it was completely pointless cause the campaign was maybe 2 hours long tops, and thats if u took your time, but had the multiplayer police not seized that one it would have been one of the funnest most epic games ever made.. and pretty soon ALL games are gonna be like this, wouldn't surprise me if they did away with story modes all together in the next year or two, hell they've already discussed forcing people to be online in order to play a game, u can blame the mp kiddies for this.Saw some footage of the campaign and it looks fun but with a short campaign (maybe 10 or so hours long) and main foucs on multiplayer, it looks more of a renter or bargain bin pickup. Wait, that makes no sense. If you don't like shooters, why are even going to play it??
I won't be getting it straight away as I've got other games to get through, but I'm sure the campaign will be great.

Lol good point. I'm buying this game but after a while I have another 'generic' shooter called Dust 514 to play before I get this.[QUOTE="MethodManFTW"]I wouldn't recommend using Red Box for Max Payne 3. They will only give you disc one. Which is half the single player and the multiplayer.ryrulezIsn't that only the 360 version? Oh yeah...

10 hours is considered "short" nowadays? That's... wow.
Also, yes. Day 1 tomorrow. Can't wait.
DrRockso87
For $60 plus tax? Hell yeah, but that's just my opinion. Even Rockstar knows it's a short campaign with it's speed runs and score challenges after you finish the campaign. Looks way better than Uncharted 3 though. Let me know how long it takes you to finsh the campaign. I'm betting you'll finish it no later than Thursday depending on your play time. My only gripe with Max Payne 3 is the fact the campaign was the main reason I want to play but it seems the meat of the game's content is focused on multiplayer.

well, i'm not buying it. $3 for trophies and max payne isn't bad. i wouldn't buy a shootie for $60, that's fo sho, since they lack depth and gameplay. Not me. I wait for a price drop on most games. These days however, I have just been picking up some nice bin deals used. I am so far behind this gen, I feel bad for the devs because I no longer buy day one. If I had the cash, I would buy everything day one, as it is, I have more important things to pay for, IE my wifes university degree. I will be getting TLoU and GTAV launch day, I have the cash saved already.
Not surprised, most games are short nowadays, I rent 90% of them anyway and only purchase something I really want to play for long time or replay few times.
Rent for Max Payne 3 for me personally.
Who cares about length as long as the quality is there? I'd say the game is worth a day one purchase, if you like action shooters that is. It's a very well made game in my opinion.
Max Payne 3 wasn't on my gaming radar at all. In fact, I've never play the series of Max Payne. I'm watching walkthrough of MP3 (almost done with it) & the story is pretty cool so far. I'm surprised that RockStar added online multiplayer mode for Max Payne. Will I buy that game? Oh yeah. But, it'll be game of the year edition (just like Batman Arkham City & Uncharted 3). Do I love single player games? Yes. But, it's getting to the point of single player driven games being push to the side for more online multiplayer games to have replay value. To HipHopBeats, renting games is the best & I've been doing just that more times than I can count!
dude mp doesn't add replay value to a game, in fact its the oppisite.. it totally kills it. all mp does is suck the life out of a game ensuring the story mode is as short and mediocre as possible to make room for said mp.. although i do agree with u about sp drivin games being pushed to the side for more mp, this is perhaps the biggest problem in the gaming industry right now, and untill it stops, games will continue to suck balls..Max Payne 3 wasn't on my gaming radar at all. ME3 is like one in a billion.. and it still would have been even longer and perhaps better had they kept it sp only, i still prefer ME2 myself, and not just cause of the damn horrible ending of ME3 but cause ME2 was just way funner to play imo..dude mp doesn't add replay value to a game, in fact its the oppisite.. it totally kills it. all mp does is suck the life out of a game ensuring the story mode is as short and mediocre as possible to make room for said mp.. although i do agree with u about sp drivin games being pushed to the side for more mp, this is perhaps the biggest problem in the gaming industry right now, and untill it stops, games will continue to suck balls..[QUOTE="BigCat2K20"]

Eaxctly. Not saying Max Payne 3 isn't worth buying, but not for $60 considering Rockstar's history with new episodes DLC and a GOTY edition with all DLC free. As good as the game looks from the walkthrough, no way would I pay $60 plus tax for it. I'd pay no more than $30 - $35 for it, especially since I'm not interested in the MP portion which seems to be the bigger focus due to the seaon pass crap.
hiphopbeats- i'd still give it a try bro, i was skepticle too when i heard they shoehorned multiplayer into it but i went ahead and got it after watching some utube footage and even if you're like me and only interested in the story mode its a really bad@ss game, took me about 9 hours to beat it first time and its addicting as hell, but if you're not wanting to spend full price just wait a few months for the hype to die down then the price will prolly drop to about $39.99, or u can prolly just get a used copy at gamestop for even cheaper, they may have multi-fvcked this game but its still pretty lengthy and very fun to play. ;)

Oh yeah, I'm definitely going to pick it up eventually as the campaign looks fun as hell. But I'm on the fence whether to get it at a price drop or waiting until the Complete Edition drops. No doubt this will win some sort of GOTY award and I know Rockstar will re-release it. I'm also anxious to see what single player DLC they have in store if any.
