I think you should get the 80gb model, because you can download more stuff, and play more games

If i were you i would wait and buy the 80gb ps3 console, because you will be paying the same price for a 40gb ps3. Having an 80gb ps3 will give your ps3 more space to download games, music, photos and etc don't for get you will be paying for the same as a 40gb ps3 makes a lot more sense to wait, i have 60gb ps3 i bought mine when ps3 was first launched but an 80gb is nicer to have.

The new 80gb will feature the exact same hardware as the current 40gb except the hdd, so it wont have backwards compatibility with ps2 games.

It really doesn't matter because it's not that expensive to replace the internal HDD with a 320 gig HDD, without voiding the warranty. Then you could have a 750 gig external HDD connected to the system. With both of these options then you would have a total of a Terabyte of HDD space.

Note: The 320 gig HDD isn't that expensive.

The upcomming 80 Gb model is the same as the current 40Gb only with more HD space; and neither one will play PS2 games.

I would just wait. It is the year 2008 going into 09. The PS2 is pretty much done. It had it's day, time to move on. I could understand if you wanted to still play 1 or 2 of your most treasured games from that period, but you should be looking at what the new games have to offer. If you can't find a cool PS3 game by at least the beginning of 09, then don't get a PS3.

I am not saying you are, but there are way too many complaints about backward compatibility. Yes Sony started it, but who cares about last gen games after the first year of the new system. When PS2 first came out, yes I still played some PS1 games on it for a bit. After fall of 2001, I didn't hardly ever touch PS1 games.

Wrong.

The upcoming 80GB model has only 2 USB ports, no SD reader, no flash card reader, no PS2 compatibility at all.

So, TC if u wanna spend 40 more bucks on it, get the MGS4 bundle.
