Why get a used one? Aren't new ones pretty cheap now? Why inherit someone problems?

Haha I have a Ps2 as of a year ago now, and never owned one last gen. I got it mainly because I wanted to play MGS and God of War games before playing the PS3 sequels. Now I hear about all these great titles on it and I want to go back and play them, but at the same time if the title is not great and suffers from being old I feel as though I wasted my money and cannot get through the game. I am sure there are tons and tons of games I should buy for the PS2 lol.

I would still recommend a "phat" PS2 over a slim... but seems like it's damned near impossible to get a new "phat" outside of ebay for some ridiculously inflated price. If you can find a 'phat', a copy of HDLoader and a compatible IDE hard drive to put in it, you can significantly reduce the wear and tear on the drive's laser, and enjoy much faster load times and a quieter system by installing the games onto the hard drive that way. And while there is USBadvance to be compatible with external hard drives, the load times off of USB are pretty poor to be as 'kind' about it as possible. The other benefit of a "phat" PS2 over a slim PStwo, is hardware vs. software BC for PS1 games. Simply, much like the PS3, the "phat" PS2's retained hardware BC for PS1 games, while the slims use software... the same basic software as the PS3's BC for PS1 games.

Well here in UK a new PS2 is as rare as rocking horse crap-Unless you want to pay around £120-approx. $165
