What pissed me off was Scorsese didn't even give the original Infernal Affairs any credit. Most filmmakers at least give a based on credit to a remake. Scorsese's punk
Get it!,looks like Walmart has it the cheapest(surprise, surprise) 24.96 Best buy is 29.99 and Circuit City wants 34.99 copperheadfang
if you want it get it
i dont buy anymore dvds, all the movies i buy now are on blu ray
dvds just look like crap now
Starting from Casino Royal all BluRay will use AVC H264, now it's still MPG2. pimperjones
bout time, sony should have stuck with H264 or VC-1 from the start like HD-DVD, so im guessing Departed is in mpeg2? ill pick up the HD-DVD version, the only downside is that its a combo DVD version, i wish they would just make an HD-DVD version aswell
HD DVD is gonna lose, Sony owns way too many hollywood film studios. Toshiba has nothing, sooner or later the studios supporting Toshiba will give up. If I were I'd stop buying HD DVDs. pimperjones
IMO, i dont think there will be any clear winner in the format war, I think in a couple years digital distribution will become more mainstream, as more and more people download movies off iTunes, use windows media center, or download HD content off Marketplace it will become the next media and will be as popular as DVD, im just buying HD-DVD and Blu-Ray movies to take advantage of my TV and sound :D

actually; open season, already out, is encoded in AVC on blu-ray (by sony) and it's suppose to be one the best looking blu-ray movies. Many reviews say that it truly shows that blu-ray can be more than a match for HD-DVD quality...

Starting from Casino Royal all BluRay will use AVC H264, now it's still MPG2. pimperjonesJudge the film on the visual quality of the movie. Not the codec used. Mpeg2 has shown to equal or trump vc-1 on certain titles. It depends on the style, film type, artistic direction, age of the film, transfer, bit rate, and hardware encoders/decoders and software. M$ at first was trying to shill their vc1 codec (FUD and propaganda = see avsforums) as the end-all-be-all codec and constantly bashed the BDAs decision to go with mpeg2 on some of their titles. In the end, it's up to the movie company and the quality should be judged by your own eyes, taking into consideration of all he factors I mentioned above.

A very dissapointing DVD transfer. Can't wait to get t on Blu-Ray.

In other words your "MPEG2 has shown to equal or trump VC1 on certain titles" quote was badly written?Yes. That's why I clarified (see above). Yet, that's something and the M$ shills in Redmond will not do. They will be fighting a losing battle on negligible differences since blu-ray already has the capacity (with serves the PC storage market, not just the movie market). The use of mpeg2 was necessary early on. And still will be for some titles (licensing reasons). You should know that. When you get a chance. Try to use that "compresion" and "extras" as a selling point to some average joe in best buy that doesn't care about that stuff but rather just wants to watch his favorite movie. In the meantime the extras will come to blu-ray as well as the advanced audio (DTS HD MA/TrueHD). This is something you can't stop. Try as you might. And as you alluded to above...more MPEG4 titles are on the horizon. Which just makes "compression" less an argument for only vc1.
MPEG2 should still never be used...VC1 and AVC could look just as good and take up less space at the same time, which in turn allows for more extras, and more sound options.
