I think a lot of people are getting compression artifacts aka digital noise confused with film grain. Its sad how many so called HD DVD/BluRay reviewers don't even know the difference, they look at a new film like Flyboys and compare it to older transfers like Black Rain and they complain how the image is too grainy in Black Rain compared to Flyboys. News Flash film celluloid is grainy, film captures images using an non uniform random grain structure, each frame is composed of millions of tiny grain like particles which in turn give you an image. Thats the nature of film. Newer movies use newer film, the newer the film stock the tighter nit the gain structure is and then there's faster film stock that abosorbs light faster and and slower film stocks that abosorbs like slower, faster film stock will give you grainier look while slower film stock will have tighter nit grain structure. The bottom line when judging HD transfers you have to watch the context of the source material, grainy doesn't mean bad transfer or poor codec compression, in fact a prestine transfer of an old grainy film will look grainy. What your looking for in HD films is digital artifacting which is far less appealing than grain but can be tricky to the average eye. At the end if you want uncompressed full theatrical resolution there's only the theater.
Enough with the "Bluray has enough capacity to keep using MPEG2" BS ok...Crank is 90 minutes long and fills up the entire 50GB, if its 100 minutes long, it would not have fit on a 50GB disk...If Crank would have used 6.1 or 7.1 audio instead of 5.1 it would not have fit...
The Descent fills up 49GB and its actually using AVC, if they would have used MPEG2 it would not have fit...
Kingdom of Heaven fills up 46GB by using MPEG2, and it has absolutely ZERO Extras. It's just the movie, nothing more.
I don't know about you guys, but for me, the more they can fit on the disk the better. m3Boarder32

I think you should rent it. I have the departed on blueray now, just got it from netflix. Blueray movies are to expensive to buy. I would rather buy a game than a movie that you might watch a few times.
I found it to be completely boring and terrible. I can't believe so many people liked it. Apparently I'm the man out on this one. I think everyone is afraid to hate it cuz they have some kind of personal fan to star alliance with the celebrities in the movie.
