Should i play the other MGSs before MGS4?

Yeah yeah i know I'm stupid for not playing em but i guess i missed the first one then i didn't get around to playing the others. I bought MGS3 recently(haven't played it yet) and I'm wondering if i should play 1 and 2 3 then 4 when it comes out?

Yes you really should otherwise the story will turn into an incoherent sci-fi mess

Reading the wikipedia pages of the 3 previous games and some of the MGS4 database available from PSN is a more realistic alternative

You don't have to but this is one of the greater series that are out there. I would recommend the essentials collection and play through it. But either way it's a great game

don't be so impatient to play mgs4. Just buy the essentials collection for 30 bucks and play through it completely. Its a great value and the games are great and playing them in order is with no question the optimal way to experience the story.
