Maybe it can be done like PCs where you must have the original disk to play a game. I see nothing wrong with what the poster is saying. rasstarman

Yeah, you wouldnt. Because all you do is troll, get off no one wants to listen to your nonsense right now.

i believe sony should of made two versions one with  and one without a blue ray player.   the blue ray player  jetted the price. and i feal ripped off with it. i have no use for the blue ray i bought my ps3 for gaming not  moviesNofacekilla11
MGS4 is supposed to take up both sides of the Blu Ray disc. If we didnt have Blu Ray and we put it on a DVD like the "other" system, MGS4 would be a 10 disc game set. Yea, that's what I really want! They announced 2 years ago that the PS3 will be expensive and not for every household. If you cant afford it, it's ok, there will be a price cut eventually. But Blu Ray is issential. That and the fact that I love my Blu Ray movies (Departed ftw!)

What are you gonna do when games get bigger, in a few years games will start reaching 15-20 gig range. You expect game manufacturers to make two different copies of each game one on single BluRay and a second version on 2-3 DVDs. Thats not practicle. No ones gonna do that. pimperjones
Come on sure they would there already doing it with some gamecube games like Resident Evil 4 that require two disks when the PS2 only needed one.

have one and a ps3 and a xbox360 and a pc the point is i would of rathered stored my games to a hardrive over the use of a blue ray to load big games. since theres no real reason to go blue ray yet. as far as movies go hd dvd and blue ray are even . it hasnt prooved yet to rise above. my alien ware pc makes my ps3 look like a ps2 compared to a ps3 so i dont see how the ps3 blue ray player made such a big impact on the systems success ... i am not complaining as much as discussing. i just feal there could of been a better way to offer the system so more people would want one and not so many passing the chance to get one because of the costs and the actual value.Nofacekilla11

No your complaining. The definition of "complain" on dictionary.com is as follows: "To express feelings of pain, dissatisfaction, or resentment."

So shut up already!

I dont even know why you bought the console if you didnt want the Blu-Ray drive. Either take it back and get a refund so someone who actually wants one can get one or stfu and play the damn thing.

People complain over the most dumb things.

Oh, you mean how EA, Rockstar, Bethesda and other developers/publishers have already done with Blu-Ray and regular DVD games? Oblivion, Madden(other sports games), and GTA IV upcoming.

Yes, Sony was thinking ahead, but at the same time they were being a smidge too zealous with the Blu-Ray tech.

As a gamer, I honestly don't care about having to get up a couple times to change discs for Blue Dragon. It didn't bother anyone else back in the day with Final Fantasy VII now did it?

Also, I highly doubt that in the next few years that MOST games will be in the 15-20 gig range, maybe a few, but not the majority.

The devs of mass effect were originally thought it that it would impossible for them to fit the game on one DVD. Well, with heavy compression and very efficient code, they managed to BARELY cram the game on one DVD9. Blue Dragon is on 3 DVDs. Blu-ray is neccessary. Deal with it.

yea how long do you think it took them to code that wouldn't be better to use the extra time making the game better.

Yeah, so let's just get stuck in the past and stop technology from advancing.

I think they should release a version that uses 5.25" floppies as the media. Just imagine loading 176 disks for a game! Think of the possibilities. PS, this thread is silly.

Ok, here is the post to end all posts in this topic.

http://archive.salon.com/tech/log/2000/10/27/playstation_rant/index.html

This link is a link from around the time of the release of the PS2 (OCT 2000), telling consumers to purchase a Dreamcast instead of the PS2 because the PS2 WAS MORE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE IT HAD A DVD PLAYER BUILT IN, and it that the drive was unnecessary. HAHA! Unnecessary, that's funny. Imagine playing your games on CDROMS still. Oh man, that's funny.

This article should be posted everywhere, its hilarious. A bunch of tech experts downplaying the PS2 (Almost every feature being complained about are the same complaints said today about the PS3).

Sony practically changed the way we watched movies and played games, and they're going to do it again. Just wait.

some ps3 games are in the 20 gb already and i think some of the exclusives are also going to be

and it was annoying when you began  new game ona  final fantasy to find that a disc does not work properly and you have to search Ebay to find it as shops do not sell it anymore ( f f 8 ) i think its time we moved onto a different format with all the new hd stuff coming out

That's really a completely different issue. They're two different systems. It's not like they could just pop the PS2 disk into the GC and have it play. Although pimperjones' statement is also false since they've already done this for pc. Some games came out as both cd and dvd. Sure a pc isn't quite the same thing as a dedicated console, but your requirement was simply game manufacturers.

Here's a prototype of your BluRay free PS3, as you can see it'll be hamster powered, it'll also use steam mechnanics and be able to play old 60s vynal records and will read games off foppy disks and CDs. What you see is the new CELL CPU, the hamster does the calculation and powers the system. More developments to come.

Thats a pretty stupid idea! So you want to have to switch discs to play a game over 6 to 7 gig! and you cant compress the same info onto a reg dvd! you lose alot of quality.

As someone stated earlier, the PS3 is going to be the ultimate gaming and entertainment platform. Blu-ray is cutting edge for both games and movies and the PS3 uses it for both. The PS3 also can play your old DVDs. I mean, it's going to flat out sprint away from the competition; just needs time. If cost is what people are worried about they can either; A) wait for a price cut (which isn't coming anytime soon BTW) or; B) pass on PS3 and get a 360.

Yeah a thinner version because the CPU and GPU die will shrink by then, but the system will be exactkly the same. It's like DS Lite and PS2 Slim. They're not new systems just better looking and less heat geneating systems. Every company does this after 2-3 years.

believe it or not the blue ray drive is not very expensive at all for Sony I think it's about $60 per console. So without the blue ray drive the cost wouldn't be much cheaper. I personally don't feel ripped off at all its good to know as far as the future goes the PS3 has the brightest. You wiat two years and both wii and the 360 with be the considered last gen systems because of the lack of the blue ray drive.

yeah that would be cool... NOT -Future games will at least become 10gig big...so on a 500gb HDD....thats 50 games.... -Id love renting games for the PS3 then too....waiting to install a game that i'll play for a week and find out that its terrible the second after its done installing would be awesome -You WOULDNT EVEN BE ABLE TO RENT GAMES....(have you seen PC games at Blockbuster...no b/c they can only be installed on ONE system) -Installing would take forever...go on the internet and try downloading a 10gig file (if you can even find one)....that would take more than a day to download... thats just the beginning of how bad that idea is man, you have terrible ideas lol

Sony is thinking ahead. The games out now, have all this content, now imagine how much more content you'll have in the few years to come.

they needed some sort of HD format and blu ray is leading the way over HDDVD and it would be too much work having 2 formats for one system, just make the ps3 less appealing.

Oh good grief...Are we still with this old, and tired complaint?  Look...Listen closely...This was the choice Sony went for.  It is afterall, their product.  They decide what they want of it, and what they don't.  The consumer smply buys their product.  Considering that we are not a part of their company, we have no say whatsoever.  Get what I'm getting at?  Want say in what their products should be, and what they should have?...Invest in their company.  Be a shareholder.  In the end, this is how things are.  You either accept it, or move along.  Things won't change just because a select few chose to whine, and cry about it.  Things are the way they are...Period....Live with it...And, get over it.  Geez.
