I personally would like it. You wouldnt have to worry about backing up data if your system broke.

And say if you went to a friends house to play his/her ps4, you could bring your memory card to play your saved games instead of your whole system.

EDIT: I see many people saying that the cloud system is best. But you need the internet to connect to it. Not everyone has the internet, I know quite a few that have a ps3 without internet. With Sony reducing the amount of ps3's your psn profile can be on, you cant back data up to the internet, go to a friends house and play that data. Memory cards you could just pick them up and go. Also USB sticks cannot copy data such as game patches/updates, only save data.

Ah, the days of memory cards. Much simpler back then. :)

I doubt Sony would revert back to them since they now have the cloud, but then again if you really wanted a memory card you could just use a flash drive.

why not just have online saves? i wouldn't trust a cloud-only save system, so you would still need a local copy. But it could auto upload the save from your system to the internet. then, log into your friends system with your PSN and your save games from home pop up. play for awhile at your friends house and the save (a local copy on your friends system which is then auto-uploaded to the cloud). when you get home your system sees the save has been updated and auto-downloads the new save file for you, so you can resume playing where you left off at your friends house. it could all be done automatically and seemlessly in the background. there is no need to go backwards and use memory cards. and if your friend lives on the moon and doesn't have internet access, then just pop a thumb drive into one of the many usb ports that everything made in the last 10 years has and take the save files with you. no need to put in a dedicated memory card slot.

Yeah i think ps3 was being nice anyway by lettng you use usb drives,i have one that came with the starwars force unleashed 2..works fine.....Sony would make more money by forcing people to buy officail ps3 save cards. on my xbox i still have 2 older models that work fine and have not had to buy a slim and i still use the xbox memory card.even tho the slim has made it useless , yo can just get a usb stick formated for like 8 gb on amazon for 20 30 bucks

Why would anyone want to go back to those? I've lost more save files to corrupted memory cards than I ever have to an HDD.

Absolutely not. Hard drive storage with cloud backup is the way to go.

Well, from one view it would be nice to be able to take my Gran Turismo garage with me to a friend's house... They've lost a little bit of sociability, if you will, by going to a strick HDD or cloud system. Right now, if I want to play GT multiplayer it's easier to just play my friends online than to go to their house. And that sucks because there's nothing like in-the-face trash talkin'. As far as I have figured out, I can't just take my garage with me. I liked that about GT3 and GT4.

:)

I wouldn't want to go back to the instability of a PS2 memory card (corrupt data is a ****), but I WOULD enjoy some sort of portability answer to playing your stuff on someone else's machine. If I want to play a game my friend doesn't own he's gotta install it, update or patch it, and then he has a game on his trophy list that he doesn't own, etc etc.

I don't know. I'm against the concept, but for the idea... If that makes any sense.

I know. I'm a walking paradox.

It should be a combination of cloud saving and optional SD cards. I say SD since it's not a Sony propriety format which they love to invent for every new system. Plus you could have super cheap memory cards. Not everyone has internet at home, even in 2011, so a a memory card would be useful. Even better would be some way to wirelessly transfer saves through Bluetooth, maybe to your cellphone and upload to the cloud, then either beam it to a friend's system(who doesn't have internet) or just log in and download your save as normal.

Thumb drives, SD cards, and Memory Sticks are standardized to the point that one or all of them should be used in place of memory cards... and you can already use them. Proprietary memory cards just served to inflate the system's price, since there was no way to really play games without them (the system should be ready to go and fully functional right out of the box).

No, I don't think there's anything wrong with the HDD. If I want to move a save file I can easily just put it on a usb stick.

Cloud storage would make a lot more sense. USB sticks are getting larger all the time, but not hundreds of gigabytes.

I think USB drives work just fine....as long as the stupid game developers don't limit your ability to copy your own saves lol.

Ya. If every game save was allowed to be copied to a USB, then I would'nt want a memory card for ps4. Why do they block the copying of some games?

An option to write save file to external storage while playing would be nice or write in both console and external storage at the same time.

I like the hard drives too and flash drives are practically memory cards. Frankly I see the cloud storage being on PS4's also but not as a replacement to HD's and I believe PSN will not be free when the PS4 drops thats why will all have cloud access.

sure and it should include a slot for LP records #sarcasm no. Save files are small and as long as usb drives are available that is a better direction to go

There still is a lot of people without internet.

That would not make much of a difference, though. I would rather have to pay for cloud storage and be able to use flash drives than pay for proprietary memory cards. A better route would be to follow MS and make customers reformat their flash drives to work with only the PS3.

Memory cards? No thanks. USB sticks can do that anyway. I back up my saves like every week. It's easy because you don't have to every save every time, just the ones you've just played.

Sony could at least incorparatethe ability to use USB thumbdrives which come in 32GB and 64GB sizes. Since the Playstation 3 didn't have memory cards, PS4 won't but a USB thumbdrive solution could work with just a software update. PS3 allows for limited use of USB sticks now. But not as "memory cards"

yes! absolutely! or atleast give *manual save* as an option in EVERY game, that way u can save whatever in any slot.. hell, on batman ac for example, the only way i could enjoy its new game plus was by literally tricking my ps3, we shouldn't have to do that! auto save is the most annoying, irritating feature ever concieved in gaming.. get rid of it!
