it could be done well, but many devs choose not to use not to use it.

it could be used well, like in heavenly sword, but other than many first party games, most games dont have it.

ideas as to why you think?

I personally don't like it. It's not good enough at responding imo. I don't use it at all and actually gets in the way.

The only thing I've actually found it useful is for flight when I played the Warhawk beta.

Its a novelty..

It gets old fast.

Its like buying special edition stuff, you look at it a couple times...But you dont really need it all that much. Just the core product

I thought warhawk executed it very good but so far any game that uses it does not make use of sixaxis at all or the game has a extremely bad response time which makes it impossible to play (Lair).

I guess it's cause the controllers are made to be moved around, the PS controllers were never built for that.

Wii would be different though. PS3 does it half assed and not too well to begin with. Wii got it right and is the primary control system.

Just throwing this in while were talking about sixaxis....how does MGS4, as an exclusive, take advantage of the sixaxis?

Its used as the only way to win one of the major boss fights, and it also clears your current octo camo. Not used much, but I think thats a good thing.

I like it in one bowling game. Folklore utilized it well. Killzone 2 is using it to steady sniping.

Sure its a cool concept at times but very few games that have used it pulled it off well like Heavenly Sword. Im guessing its not used much because of the extra work developers have to go through

Because it was just a tacked on device, they attempted to jump on Nintendo's bandwagon but were not willing to take the risk of fully commiting to it. Its really pointless to have given the structure of the PS3 controller, the only useful, intuitive use of the sixaxis is as a steering wheel. Take the Wiimote for example it can be used as a knife, a sword, a gun, a baseball bat, tennis racket etc. You cant do that with the sixaxis so nobody even tries with it.

Heavenly Sword used it wonderfully, as did Uncharted. Heavenly Sword it was just perfect the way you could control the way projectiles or thing you made projectiles after they were thrown. Uncharted's grenade mechanics were good too ... you could use just the controls or the sixaxis, I found it really useful in Uncharted, heard it won't be implemented in the next one, hopefully cause the found a better use rather than just taking it out completely.

The reason why It worked in these games is that they weren't completely necessary. You could still accomplish the same task without them, but the motion sensing actually did make it easier and more rewarding. I think it can only work well if its used in a way which isn't intruding. Killzone 2's door opening and charge detonation with the sixaxis look pretty clever and i expect GoW3 will use it for small things like ripping off medusa's head or rotating/ripping out the cyclops' eyeballs.

Because motion controls do not work with standard controllers. The ps3 controllers pretty much make case in point of this issue. The Wii's motion sensing works quite well because the controller design lends itself to being twisted and moved about easily. And it's also why Microsoft hadn't bothered with motion sensing for the 360.

It might be hard to admit but I think the sixaxis was just a gimmick. It's only really used with exclusive games.

And even then, it's even more for token functionality/usage than the shovelware on the other platforms... which is damned ironic if you ask me. :?

I keep forgetting it exists, and I really wish games would leave it alone. I've died more times than I like to admit just because I didn't shake fast enough.

Well most the games coming out don't need Six-Axis and it will just ruin the game if you put Six-Axis in for no reason. For EG: Putting Six-Axis in Fifa 09 what would be the point.

killzone 2 uses it for steadying the sniper rifle and interacting with doors and stuff, which is a pretty cool idea, i think you'll see it used in sonys game, to most effect, and maybe uncharted will use it. Once someone nails a really cool thing in a game that improves a mechanic of the game, i believe more will try using it, but as nothing has improved upon the simple analog controls so far, it's not used.

I like it lol. BUT only for things like in uncharted where you move the sixaxis inward or downward to adjust the range when you throw a grenade. Using the sixaxis to either fly or drive is a HUGE gimmick. I hate it when its used for those things.

Yup, the best used it's gotten so far was in Folklore & High Velocity Bowling. Let's hope Killzone 2 ends up using it right.

I like how much they use it now... where it's basically delegated to minigames or PSN shovelware. Sony starts encouraging too much gimmickry among developers and this console will turn into a Wii overnight.

Not to mention the fact that most games on PS3 are crossplats w/ 360 which doesn't have motion sensing controls.

It shouldn't be forced into the game, only applied where it makes sense. Look at how many Wii games suffer from bad controls because the devs pretty much have to implement motion controls (since it has to be playable with a wiimote-nunchuck).

Wii would be different though. PS3 does it half assed and not too well to begin with. Wii got it right and is the primary control system.

Wii uses a motion sensor to determine the full motion of it's controllers. The Six Axis doesn't have that. It funtions in a way where it needs to be leveled with the ground first and then motion registers properly. Thus, Wii has full motion, while PS controllers have six motions.

I like the fact that Six Axis is looked at as a novelty. Heavenly Sword, Ratchet and Clank, and other games had fun ways of incorporating the Six Axis. But, if every game used it, the novelty would wear off, well, for me anyways. For devs, the SixAxis is a risky thing to work with. It can frustrate more than entertain sometimes. I personally hated Six Axis in Godfather and NBA 2K8.
