So dissappointed....now what? (Final Fantasy Related)

Well, after seeing several teasers of FF13, I'm pretty much sold on it but pretty mad that the ONLY Final Fantasy game I've played was FFVII. How much of the story line am I missing? How many character's died/betrayed who. Is there a summary of this some where leading to Final Fantasy 13? Do the stories even co-exist within one another?

Me neither!! Just read the GI hands on, and I think Im gonna freaking love this game. It said some classic FF components have been reworked, but it sounds like the parts of FF that always frustrated me anyway (like backtracking and the need to explore towns which can be freaking boring). Also, the combat sounds great and the game looks fantastic. Whoot!!

you should be fine, each game has self contained story.
