So i found the pyro flame hand or w.e so i can use fireballs. how come i only have 8 uses? What do i need to aquire more uses for fireballs? Wish there was a mana system

Papadrach
Have you played Demon's Souls? Sounds like you would like it a lot better, it has a mana system and the levels are linear.

LOL this is one series I will never bother with. I don't like really hard games. I play games to have fun and relieve stress, not to stress myself out even more. Plus from what I hear, it doesn't really have a story and for an RPG that is just fail to me.

So the point is to wander around to find some boss that jumps out at you, kill it, then keep wandering around, rinse and repeat?

Papadrach
Not really, your main mission for the first part is ringing the two bells the man at Firelink Shrine mentioned (he also gave you a hint about where they are), you can use the bossfights as an indication to know that you're on the right track. The game doesn't really give you the story up front but don't worry, things will fall into place later on. Also: Endure. In enduring, grow strong. And explore every nook and cranny of the world, there's a lot of things to be found that will make your journey throughout the game much, muuuccchhhhh easier.

There are more people who can teach you more spells and such. They will sell you more fire balls and you can pick them for another slot allowing you to have more.

If your stuck on anything, and didn't get it the first time just type in the area your in with walkthrough in the title on youtube.

Did you guys beat Gravelord Nito Yet ?

zekere

Yes, once, thought he was the most difficult boss in the game, although i had big troubles with Ornstein and the big dude. Although on newgame+ I cried with the 4 Kings...

I feel your pain but once I used iron flesh it was all good.

I thought Gravelord was pretty easy (at least on the first go-around). All you have to do is sit at the starting point for the encounter and kill off the 3-4 skeletons that spawn with your divine weapon (which I assume you have since you got all the way to Gravelord). After that its merely just dodging some slow attacks and making sure you have enough healing pots for after he does his AoE ability.

Four Kings on the other hand... As someone who basically played without leveling magic or faith too high, I thought that fight was a b#@%*. You are basically forced to kill each king within about 10 or so seconds from the next one spawning or else you are f'd.

Dark Souls is a game where you are supposed to die and start over several times at the hands of the same enemies/bosses, until you start observing their patterns of movement and attacking and find a way to counter them.

When you first meet a new kind of enemy you're going to get killed, start over, then it will kill you again over and over, until you eventually find it's weakness. And it's very rewarding when you do(which is the whole point of the game).

IMO, it's a great game and not really difficult in the common sense, but it requires a lot of discipline, as it tests your capacity to handle frustration to its limits. So maybe it's not for everyone.

it's not for everyone... I don't love Halo or Grand Theft Auto, but a lot of other ppl seem to. Even though I don't like them, it doesn't make them bad games, and not liking Dark Souls doesn't make it bad either... it's just not your cup of tea

I think Dark Souls should come with 2 free PS3 controllers because youll probsbly go through about 3 after finally beating a few parts. With that said its not my kind of game, i just feel like im wasting my time with those kind of games. Demons souls wasnt my kind of game either. I will say though, that the games are exceptionally made, not a flaw in both games, just not my type of games.

I'm struggling with Demon's Souls, playing offline without the help of the messages but i'm not complaining... combat it's great and plus if it's hard, finally a challenge to my patience lol, though i would love a little more of direction it serves really good to keep the atmosphere tense and to be careful all the time.

Why is this game so freaking hard? I beat the first boss after like 8 tries. Now i cant even beat the two skeletons in the graveyard after that because they're too cheap and theres no way around beating them. They can roll and knock me down/hurt me. i do that and they're just like "lol wtf double team sword smash" and i die

Papadrach

I felt the same way about demon souls. I spent 4 hours trying to beat the first level. I almost did too, but a random exploding barrel. Somepeopl like the game because of its challenge and learning curve, I for one could care less. I am not an RPG person. The only RPG i really love is skyrim. Im a shooter person.

I don't know if this has already been said because I can be bothered reading the whole topic, but you need to ring the second bell. You do that by going to Blighttown. blighttown is accessed through the Depths. You get the key to Blighttown from killing the Depth's Boss or you can take a shortcut by going from Firelink to New Londo then, if you have the master key, New Londo to Valley of Drakes. Once in Valley of Drakes, cross the small bridge and enter Blighttown. The way you're going with the skeletons is toward the Catacombs. You don't have to go that way yet. Stick with Dark Souls. It'll take a while for its true genius to shine through, especially if you didn't play Demon's Souls. I love Dark Souls. It's my 2011 GOTY. I bought and completed it on PS3 and 360.

This. I really need to go back to Dark Souls, I've been playing Resident evil 4 lately for the platinum. Reading this thread makes me want to return to trying to defeat the Prison demon, the stray demon I think he's called.

i got the plat trophy. You need to beat the game 2 and a half time and honestly ... no grind needed except for a couple of items to upgrade weapons and armors ... like some people said ... drake sword gets you easily through half the game and you need to think your stats throughly ...

And if you have problems with a boss use a summons sign to see how others do it ... or go human form and summons some help if not for players al least the npcs are a good boss distraction.

AND AFTER THE FIRST PLAYTHROUGH IT'S A CAKEWALK.

Did you play Demons Souls? I actually think Dark Souls is easier....MC-Reap

I would disagree. I thought Demon's Souls was fairly easy and expected the same of Dark Souls, but when I got the game and started playing it I was shocked at how much more difficult it was.

Once you figure out how to manipulate the AI leash all enemies have, it's a cake walk. The game is actually stupid easy, it's difficulty is more or less entirely derived from incredibly poor game design. It's cheap yeah, but you can cheap it right back and then some. It has almost no story as well, so not only do you just wander around fighting monsters, but you're never even given a good reason to do said fighting. No reason, no motivation. Just mindless grinding. No purpose, no memorable characters, no reason to ever give a flying damn about the game world or anyone in it.

I haven't played Dark Souls yet but in Demons souls you had to learn what the enemies did, once you figure that out, the game is easy, they have tactics they use, figure out a way to defend yourself and how to attack and the game will be a lot easier, don't just go running towards them slashing away.

If you didn't play and complete Demon's Souls, I'd say you will never get through Dark Souls, not even with the best strategy or you tube vid guide in the world. There are bosses that will simply make you quit, especially if you're having trouble at this point. The game gets harder than you could even imagine, and that's no exaggeration. I personally beat Demon's Souls without a shred of help, not one guide or walkthrough and it took me over 150hrs but it was the most pure gaming experience I have ever had. Dark Souls demands even more time, skill, and patience and has almost made me quit numerous times despite 50 hours worth of progress. It's just insanely hard almost to a fault. It's not cheap, it just forces you to play it constantly through trial and error if you want to succeed and make progress. It's all about learning enemy attack patterns and implementing effective strategies to gain the upper hand and win. This is a game that requires more devotion and time than most jobs and or college courses to complete and succeed, including the frustration that comes with such tasks. I love Dark Souls though and will personally stick with it, I plan on seeing it through to the bitter end, no matter how long it takes. I could understand you selling or trading it though, it's simply BRUTAL. That's the beauty of it though, there's nothing like it out there. Like a review that I read said, not everyone will be able to handle it, but one thing's clear: If you're ready for it, it's ready for you.

This game starts out what some might call 'hard' but once you learn how it 'works' and become decent at combat you will have a lot of fun.

You are not supposed to go to the graveyard upon starting the game, go into the castle with the long steps going up near the first bonfire.

It takes a bit to get into but it's not 'insane' or 'rediculously' unforgiving. If you are at least decent at using a controller and using your brain you should have no massive problems most of the game. Enemies have weaknesses and you should exploit them and walk around cautious.

This game is NOT overrated. I won't say anyone; but almost anyone that starts to understand the game after killing the first few bosses will have this game in their top games played this year. The beauty of the game is that it becomes better and better the further in you go. Instead of games that start cool but become boring after 3 hours.

Took me 65 hours for my first playthrough. Almost no farming. Less than 100 deaths. This game is massive.

If I got Dark Souls (which I never would), I know I'd hate it too. I might have been interested in it, if it weren't unnecessarily brutal in terms of difficulty.

i loved this game, easily the best single player game I have played in years...and I am by no means a hardcore player... if you need some help though look up the EpicNameBro youtube videos, they help you understand the combat a lot more this is _not_ a button masher game at all once you learn that it helps a ton

I take it you're still stuck at the skeletons which own your ass back and forth? Well don't go that way.. The sheer difficulty of those things should imply that you're not supposed to be there yet. Neither should you be at the ghost area yet. There is another path leading to a bunch of armored zombies, take that path and it's all pretty straight forward. It's not exactly an hugely massive open world. The game does encourage exploration and thats a fun part of the game. There is an objective but you're porposely not given a clear direction so you're forced to explore.

Well this is a game of patience and endurance, which makes it such a great game and you cannot just run around the place expecting to beat it so easily and in your first go :P i don't suggest you go to the skeletons if you've just started go around the place level up and trust me once you get into it you won't be able to stop playing :) so keep at it, and a suggestion don't skip enemies unless you've got a lot of souls because those souls are important and are required to beat the game sounds stupid but in my first run through i literally ran through and faced the same problem as you, so work at it take each part at a time, and you probably will have to return to certain levels cause they were simply too difficult to beat before but trust me once you beat it you'll feel like a boss :)
