i was just wondering if the failure rates for the old ps3 are generally the same for the slim version and advice on how to keep it working besides the obivous, keep it ventilated, not too much dust etc

What? Your PS3 will be fine. The failure rates are very low, so stop worrying about nothing.
I don't think they will fail, because Sony made them :). But to be honest, do we know the long term effects yet? We don't since it hasn't been out long enough. Like Laser Eye Surgery, people say it is safe, but we don't know what will happen in the future :(idk761i dont really class sony as reliable. ok my ps1 and ps2 were fine and still work to this day. but lately they have gone way down. i have a total of 7 psp's. good job i got the extended warranty. and also my ps3 messed up with hdd or something last year so i had to replace that.

true, the quality of the psp is ridiculous
Fortunately all of you who just bought the slim can be the guinea pigs for the rest of us and test it out for the next year.JKnaperekyea i love guinea pigs! all i can tell u TC, is leave it on for a month with out turning it off if it has any problems it should still be under warranty...
