i think some stores do it differently, so don't worry. for instance, i got my kratos right away, but my buddy who pre ordered it from a different store is in the same situation you are (has to wait until the release date).

how are they going to run out of code? there's going to be set amount of people who will pre-oder the game. 1 key per 1 person. the amount of keys distributed should be based on the amount of pre-oders and not on a first come (pre-order ) first served basis. that would be very uncool.
and if by any chance they missed you, you always have the proof of pre-order. so whether the woman was right or wrong shouldn't eliminate you from acquiring the code. But i do acknowledge that there could be a hassle for you if she was wrong and you relied on it.
