I got the yellow light of death today. Any one have any recommendations on how to fix the issue myself before I send it in to Sony and end up out of $150. I could buy a new one, but it wouldn't be the 60gb that I have now and of course it would cost me more than $150.

If you want to keep your 60gig your best bet is to pay the $150 and have sony fix it.

If your warranty is still good just send it in and you will be given a new machine. That's what happened to me. If your warranty is void then there are two choices 1- send it in and pay 150$ to get it fixed 2- buy a new one

Yeah. It's dead. It won't power up at all and I have a game stuck in it. I get a red light, then a green light (like normal). But then the green light turns yellow and then I get a flashing red light. That's all that happens.

Thanks. I guess I'll just send it in and pay the $150. The warranty has expired. Will they repair my 60G or do they just send you a refurbished 80G? I would rather have my 60G back.

Its not called "Yellow light of death", and to fix it, pop open the hard drive tray (Give it around 4 hours to completely cool off) and Pull out the hard drive tray and either clean it with some pressurized air, or just blow in it lol.

Or, you can just try to push the hard drive into the clippy thing more

In any case, i take no responsibility for you trying this because I cant (and wont) gaurantee it will work after/

I blew the whole unit out with pressurized air, took the HD out,and left it unplugged for about 8 hours. It still doesn't work. Sony said that it was some sort of overheating/temperature issue. It's well ventilated and I blow it out once a week with pressurized air. I think that I just bought a lemon out of the bunch. I've never even known that thiswas something thathappened at alluntil it happened to me today. When I looked it up, I found out that it's happened to several people and that's where I got the whole "Yellow Light of Death" thing. Sorry if that's an incorrect term of describing it, but that's what everyone else is calling it. As far as I'm concerned, it's the "Yellow Light of Death" to mebecause I've never seen a yellow light on my PS3 until it DIED.

I'd just pay for the repair. It's just convenient for me to be able to play PS2 games on one console, and plus the 60gb has the added features such as the SD slots. It needs to last me another 18 months though because it's going to be a pain trying to get it fixed in Japan. I'd probably have to ship it to America, have my parents send it in, then have them send it back once it gets fixed. Don't even want to think about it! *knocks on wood*

I'd say send it in. Your 60gb is better than the new ones.

I'm waiting for them to send methe pre-paid shipping box so that I can send it in. I just went ahead andpaid the $150 so that I can get back my 60G (or a refurbished 60G). Thanks for the advice.

*Update*

I just checked my email and appearantly Sony decided to ship me another PS3 before I even sent mine off. I got two tracking orders from UPS. Oneof the packages weighs 4 lbs. and the other weighs 16 lbs. I'm pretty sure that thepackage that weighs 16 lbs. isn'tan empty box. Both will be at my house on04/01.I'm still pissed about having to spend $150, but I definitely can't complain about the service.
