You heard it here first it will soon be posted here on gamespot. Looks like Sony is trying to get back in the game.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
Sony never got out of the game.rogerjak
Well there being outsold by both the 360 and Wii we WAS NEVER the case last gen. You can't say what ever you like but a price cut this soon means there worryed and there not going to set back and wait any longer. I think its a good move on there part.
You know, if this happens....the guy here who paid full price at launch is going to get even more pissed off....
Then again, if the install base grows and Sony finally gets their act together because more systems are selling, I'll be....a little happier....:x
It's not anything official. basically they are looking at ways to cut costs so they are laying off workers in Europe. No one knows when the price will drop but i am sure it will happen before September.Deihmos
I fear this price cut paves the way for a $600 80GB unit to slide right in.
The price cut doesn't annoy me.
Having my top of the line unit become the bottom of the line unit in under 6 months does though.
This is not offical yet as Sony knows that would only slow todays sells as gamers waited for the price drop but from what I've found online there guessing mid-March oncw they get IBM to switch over to the cheaper chip-set.vip_kass
To drop prices so soon is embarassing and doesn't look good to stock holders.

Actually, Sony's stock is rated a "buy" right now. The PS3 is expected to contribute to significant growth in the stock.

Yep I am sure they are all pissed off about how much their stock has gone UP. Get a grip and head back to SW or 360. I don't believe you even own a PS3 so what brings you here?
nobody forced that guy to buy the $600 PS3. if he wanted it cheaper, he should have waited. You know, if this happens....the guy here who paid full price at launch is going to get even more pissed off....

it's funny that Microsoft gets praises for "giving the consumers what they want", but when Sony decides they want to drop the price, they get hounded for it. Isn't that what just about everybody wants? so now it's a bad thing? you guys really need to get a life. is the 360 forum that boring that you can't stay over there?[QUOTE="SkyCastleDan"]nobody forced that guy to buy the $600 PS3. if he wanted it cheaper, he should have waited. You know, if this happens....the guy here who paid full price at launch is going to get even more pissed off....

Yes it will be embarassing to cut prices so soon if it does happen. Take an Economics class if you don't understand what i am talking about. It shows that they do not have confidence in their product hence forced to lower the price to make it more attractive.

Why would you be angry? If it was worth it to you for $600, it should still be worth it when the price drops. I'd love to see a huge drop so my friends would stop jawing and buy one.

We have no idea what the 80GB version will offer yet, it may just be 20 more GBs on the HDD and nothing else. Your 60 GB is still the ****. Having the original is pretty cool too.

they should be laughed at whether the price is dropped or not.LMAF  I can only laugh because as I read this, I'm thinking of the idiot(s) who paid over a grand for the system at launch..

It has more to do with consumer psychology than economics. I do understand what you're saying though. Kinda like what the Elite did, right?

I thought your original statement was pretty logical, but you can't expect logic to seep into any fanboy's brain. That's what i'm thinking if sony would make that move that would be it. Replacing the 60gig for the 80 gig and dropping the price to 500 or 450.

You're right noone forced anyone to buy a PS3 at launch. I could be proven wrong here but a price drop within the first year of a consoles launch is kinda rare, and would be quite unexpected. If they drop it so be it, whatever it drops I will have gotten the drops value out of my system by that time.

exactly. and why are people complaining? people complain that the userbase of the PS3 is so small. well, here is Sony's answer to that. and now people are complaining about this?ur a idiot.........it doesnt say that 100 percent for sure they r.........and ahhah they rnt out of the game.......it hasnt even been out for half a year......umm i do belive they sold more ps3s than any other console in uk.......there sneaking up very slowlyps320071
Watch for Sony to release a ton of blockbuster hits MGS 4, KZ2, Lair etc, boost up their online arcade and game demos and downloads, and all the while cutting the price of the PS3 $100. Sony doesn't lose, they do what it takes to win.
[QUOTE="Deihmos"]Wow that was quick. I guess they finally realized that the price was hurting them. That means an Xbox price cut is coming soon. :lol:casey7672
Don't count on a 360 price cut. The PS3 at $500 is still $100 above 360.
don't forget about the $479 Elite model which launches within the next two weeks.ur a idiot.........it doesnt say that 100 percent for sure they r.........and ahhah they rnt out of the game.......it hasnt even been out for half a year......umm i do belive they sold more ps3s than any other console in uk.......there sneaking up very slowlyps320071
Sure what ever, I just feel that Sony likes being the Big Dog and that is what there use to. They came in as underdogs abck in the day but ever since then they have been the
Dominant player in the market place, however this time around it's a lot hard to lead the pack. I feel this is there move to get them selves back on top. I personally hope this makes MS and Nintendo crap there paints. Hopefully there drop there prices and this will start a hole new wave up systems with upgrades much like the IPODS.
