I just can't imagine Microsoft just sitting by and letting this happen. That said, if it's true, great news for PS3 owning GTA fans, such as myself. 8)

The contract is for the episodic content, not the actual game and I doubt MS had the foresight to include a quality or length clause in the contract.[QUOTE="acidic_dude"]Whats so big about it???, GTA4 will still have to come out to the 360 or it will be breach of contract, and right now there is like 2 games we know of that are PS3 exclusive plus I guess there is one unannounced one still unless that unannounced one is the untitled rockstar FPS. DJuan12
Getting their money back might actually be the best idea as far as MS are concerned.
I doubt MS did have that foresight, their products are usually for the here and now and dont usually take the future into account and force people to upgrade to things that should already be there, its their business model
but in anycase,This rumor began about R* going ps3 exclusive about a week ago. If more rumors surface about the same subject from different journalists, what does that tell you? That there is some substance behind the rumor. Who knows.
[QUOTE="bunchofpixels"]Shambles? You mean developing one of the three AAA games that the 360 has, and another game that is AA?DJuan12Personally, I wouldn't class any of them as anything above average. No where near the quality of games they were making when they were with Nintendo.

Sony can't afford what Taketwo would want for Rockstar
If they did buy Rockstar Games, that would blow a hole right through Microsoft.
That would be just like how Microsoft owns Bungie, therefore get's Halo exclusively.
If Sony bought Rockstar, then GTA would be exclusive to Playstation brand once again.
It would hurt Microsoft because they payed a lot of money for exclusive episodes of GTAIV on 360.
This would be interesting.
This isn't official yet, but it seems that talks between SONY and Rockstar have begun and made their way down the pipeline. This is BIG TIME news for PlayStation 3 owners...if it is true. Awaiting official confirmation.

Congrats on posting another article where someone else speculates the other way. That article has no more proof compared to the first one from PSU. It's obvious there have been some dealing going on with R* seeing as L.A. Noire seems like it will be exclusive as well as a new IP.cows can dream, cant they, read this, ROCKSTAR ISNT GOING ANYWHERE!!!

This wont effect GTA IV it says, and I doubght microsoft would go without a fight. It would be a bidding war.Thornscar
Why does everyone think so much in the near future with this one? Yes it won't effect GTA IV if it happens, but if GTA IV catches on like the rest of them have, which I think is a very strong possibility, then there will be another GTA and that one will be exclusive to PS3 due to it. Long term, its huge.

Take Two has been losing money for a while. Also, can Take Two afford Rockstar?
Here's an article from a year ago.
http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/gta4/news.html?sid=6145914&mode=all
With the delay of GTA4, Take Two may want to just cut their losses on this one.
Still rumor, but it's an interesting situation keeping me from working. :D

I'm little confus about MS paid50million"R' game for special online HHD andSony want tobuy GTA IV on PS3.
'R' will back 50 millionto MS . Sonybought it"R" stay on PS3.finish it! YES!I'm not liar.
lol, you know this post is so funny on so many levels. First, everyone is so excited on the prospect of sony "buying" rockstar games when it's just a rumor. All this is are rumors and lets be realistic here people. this is a company that has said time and time again that they don't pay for exclusive titles, so what makes everything think they going to just buy a whole gaming company, fat chance on this ever becoming true. Especially when you have microsoft paying the company $50 million dollars for exclusive content for the 360, you really think they going to sit back and just let that much money go to waste?
Second, how would this be beneficial to rockstar when they are struggling to make a buck in the first place? The only reason whey GTA 4 is multiplatform is because they need money badly, and why would you release a game exclusive to a platform thats right now 3rd in the console race when there's only 3 competitors? Thats just plain stupid if they would of done that. Fact is the 360 has about 12 million consoles sold worldwide where the PS3 might have 5 or 6 million. With both consoles having price cuts, there sales with boast definitely but the fact is, there are twice as many 360 out there than there is PS3's. Why do you think they wanted to release manhunt 2 on the Wii, because it's selling millions of units.
This is all about money, and for rockstar to just sell there company to sony, even though sony has the history of being the top selling console company, they don't have the most popular system right now, so rockstar best bet is to stay there own company and make as many multiplatform games as they possibly can, thats how they are going to make there money. Sony buyin them is just going to be them in a bigger whole than they are already in.

Are you kidding me? Rockstar has no say in the matter. Take Two owns them. If They wanna hand over the company for enough big bucks they can damn well do that. Im not sayig this is gunna happen, but the possibilities ar there.

Buying Rockstar essentially means they wont be making any 360 games after GTA4(If they even released that). I havent enjoyed GTA since the GTA 2, but the series is hugely popular. There are many people that would buy a turd if it had GTA stamped on it, and Gamespot would give it a 9.5. It's a system seller. The bigger the install base, the more 3rd party exclusives a system gets which is a good thing.[QUOTE="knicknut17"]you dont know what your talking about.I can picture Take Two selling Rockstar to SONY for 3 reasons.
#1:
Rockstar has been developing games on SONY consoles for many years now. Most of their games were built on the PlayStation platform and then ported to other platforms. Generally speaking, Rockstar is a pro-SONY developer in the same way that Bioware is a pro-Microsoft developer. Not every game is exclusive, but most are at least timed exclusives.
Personally, I'd rather have Bioware, but that's just my opinion.
#2:
For as much revenue as Rockstar generates for Take Two, they also bring lots of drama and controversy. For a company that is not doing too well financially (Take Two that is...) this marks a good opportunity for them to cut their losses and save face with shareholders. I think the ban on Manhunt 2 really hurt Rockstar's standing within Take Two...The delay for GTA was just icing on the cake.
#3:
So we've made it clear that Rockstar Games is a pro-SONY company and that Rockstar isn't exactly on good terms with Take Two shareholders. I think the point has been made over and over during the last couple of months that SONY needs to get themselves some exclusives. Obviously that problem has been taking care of itself, but wouldn't the acquisition of arguably the most FAMOUS/NOTORIOUS game developer in the market, be news?
SONY has a LOT to gain from making this move if they choose to go that path. It would be a huge boost for PR and marketing.

My thoughts exactly.
This is one of those rumors that seem so fake that if it comes true, we all crap bricks.
Assuming this article is true, what I expect would most likly happen is Sony finances R* leaving Take Two. Make it another Insomniac or Naughty Dog. Microsoft might be offering money to make it part of the Microsoft family, but Sony would be making it its own company.
That way, its still ok for R* to make 360 games. They just get a differnt publisher. And ultimatly, they get to make whatever games they feel like. With Microsoft running R*, I would get the feeling that we would see them force out sequels to franchises.
My main point, which I would like to make, is that Take Two won't exist for another two years at most. R* is probaly its only profitable developer, and they aren't going down with them. GTA SA still sells decently for a game that old. R* is either going to be bought, or is going independent.
But I still think it would be funny if Microsoft or Sony went threw the effort to secure Take Two, only to find out that R* wasn't part of the deal.
only time would tell, but it be HUGE if it turned out to be ture and happened! i can see E3 08 (if there is such a thing) after IV GTA comes home!
lol if this is true then what ever happened to we earn are exclusives lol in the end sony microsoft and nintendo are all the same just greedy corporations doing anything for a buck. though to be honest i probably want be buying many more rockstar games if this happens. its really rockstar selling out, if they actually do, that bothers me i thought they would be more like blizzard and (at the moment) it would appear there more like EA. ce la vie

Can you change those FAKE sales numbers you have from nextgen wars? Even that site updated them long time ago. And MS is 10.9 million, PS3 4.1, Wii 9.7
Thanks for telling me that, and I got to say, I think Sony picking up R* now, wont really matter because damn, now is the time to buy a PS3, even without exclusive R* games, and what ever, the only good R* franchise is GTA, Manhunt and all the other games suck. And why would R* do this when they can make more money by having their games on more then one console, especially when the other console as a bigger install base, and sign exclusive content deals for 50 MIL?Please Log In to post.
