cost might go down --> which will probably lead to a quicker price drop.

Doubt it. They'll use any reduced costs to try and claim back some of the huge loss they have taken on the PS3 so far.

this will only help the ps 3 because more blu-ray players out there the more support for the ps 3. people will see that blu-ray is in then they will either buy a blu-ray player or a ps 3. more support = cheaper.

Come on princess, do you really think that they will drop the price rather than take less of a loss? They are using an emulator rather than the EE chip in EUro PS3's, but this isn't being accompanied by a price drop. Why would a cheaper blu-ray drive mean a price drop?

no u are absolutly right about that there wont be a price drop. but neither are they trying to claim back some loss. consoles are at first very expensive to build but after a while they bring profit and sony is already makin new ways to make the console smarter... this time they're making the BC be build upon software whitch is a good solution.

does it always drop in price if the blu-ray player is cheaper to make. why not price drop more people buying it mean more movie sales which the money making. it would be stupid for sony not to price drop. come on no sony is not stupid. they make the most money on software not hardwere.

Of course they are trying to claim back a loss. The PS3 is something Sony have sunk alot of money into. They are losing money on every unit they sell. So any way they can recuce costs allows them to recoup some of the loss they are making. They will probably make a loss on the unit for a few years yet. It's the games where they will make money.

umm....the entire reason for producing the PS3 for cheaper is to lower the cost to Sony, and to try to make some money back from the gazillions of dollars that they have spent on the PS3.

didn't it take Sony like 2 years before they first dropped the price of the PS2? and we are expecting them to drop the price of the much more expensive PS3 in just 3-6 months? can I have some of what you are smoking?

bluray players dont have cell processor or rsx so i dont think they were that expensive to begin with. the price on them was high to entice you to buy a ps3 so they will look good with the bluray investors. But now thats done with, they need to get those bluray drives out and concentrate on the ps3 gamers.

They are just trying to better compete with the currently lower price of HD-DVD hardware. The PS3 does Blu-Ray well, but it doesn't have all the fancy features of a stand-alone Blu-Ray player. There are people in the world who won't give the PS3 a second look because it's a game machine, and they have no interest in games. However, a stand alone player would replace that almost-outdated stand alone DVD player.
