Sony will continue upgrading PS2 titles for PS3.

In an interview with IGN during E3, Shuhei Yoshida, president of SCE's Worldwide Studios, confirmed the company will release more Blu-ray collections of PS2 games in the future.

"Santa Monica Studios had the brilliant idea to upgrade and improve God of War for PS3 with the God of War Collection that we released last year," Yoshida said. "There were a lot of positive reactions from consumers in doing that, and now we get a lot of suggestions for types of packs they'd like to see."

"So we are looking to continue to do these HD conversions," he added.

At E3, Sony announced The Sly Collection, which includes all three Sly Cooper PlayStation 2 titles in high resolution and has 3D, Move, and trophy support. The title is scheduled for release this November.

When asked about the possibility of releasing PS2 titles through PlayStation Network, Yoshida said Sony is looking at different methods but wouldn't confirm anything.

"We are looking into ways how we can deliver the PS2 library to PS3 consumers, but were are not ready to announce anything yet."

Why shouldn't they? It's proven that people will rebuy games they already have if you polish it. It's sad, but the true.

Agreed, over PSN would be much better. It's less GB than any of the full ps3 games you can buy so that's not a problem.

And if they were upgraded with resolution/trophy support that's even better.

Now I know why they removed b/c for the PS3. They are upgrading old PS2 titles to HD to be playable on PS3 to make more money....:(

There's still a few PS2 games I'm interested in but never got; like Beyond Good & Evil, Twisted Metal, Killzone & Kingdom Hearts, so I could wait for these to hit PSN. But if it's games I already have like GOW, MGS, Ico, FF, GTA etc then I'll save my money.

Of course it would be more convenient if we could just play PS2 discs on our PS3s, but what do I know?

Honestly, its fine with me. I missed a bunch of good games last gen. To be able to play a remastered version of them is appealing to me

This is a great idea from Sony...I'd be interested. As long as it's priced resonably though. I got a feeling it could be overpriced.

the only issue with releasing them on the psn is the price...size wise could be an issue but

thats why we can upgrade the HDD to a bigger one and im sure they could get some compression

to keep everything a few gb each or so at most..

I'm perfectly fine with buying them on discs. Since God or War Collection has two games for $30, it's the exact price that xbox live charges for its "classic" games. It also allows people to have the games without eating up their hard drive space.

That is true. Especially considering how some PS3 games have a 5GB mandatory install...They might take up more space with the HD graphics though. I'm all for doing the disc collections AND releasing them on PSN ;)

If they're going to do this instead of bringing back BC, I'd prefer this.

That's really the only problem I see with the whole "put it on PSN" plan. People with slow or inconsistent connections (like me) would have quite a bit of difficulty obtaining PlayStation 2 games that way.

Aside from that, though, it's a brilliant idea.

The sly cooper collection has 3D AND Move support!? So if say Shadow of Collossus was redone I would be able to aim the bow n arrow (with two move controls) and hit the giant collosus in its eye? *And then switch back to the dualshock so that I can run before I get a stone sword in my face*

Personal Wishlist...

1. Metal Gear Solid (i know this isn't first party but i would love it)
2. Final Fantasy Collection (would be 10 and 12... maybe 11 if the servers are still running...)
3. Team Ico Collection
4. Ace Combat collection

that's what i personally hope for.

Though i do expect that Sony will also do a Jak collection and Ratchet and Clank collection... maybe to add more kid friendly looking games on the market.

Personally wouldn't mind it as i completely skipped those... and seeing how i love the Ratchet and clank series on the PS3.. would most likely give the R&C a go if there is a collection pack.

But honestly, I'd really like Square to go all out and make a Final Fantasy Collection. I'd be willing to settle with a two disc set: The first has the PS1 titles: 6(which has a port on the system),7-9 and Tactics. The second would have X, X-2, and XII, though I'm not against XI that would be an odd transfer I think.

That would just be really awesome, having one collection and location to play them all.

It would have been easier to put backwards capabilities in the Sp3 rather than making the consumer repurchase a game they most likely already have

The single disc games would be fine as a PS2 Disc is a DVD and that can only hold 4.7GB of data, but any game with more than 1 disc will be far too much.

Collections are way more appealing and look good on the shelf too. Nice to have true classics on one disc in its own collectible case.

if they're planning on making ps2 game collections i hope they include third party execulisves too not just GOW or sly ya know like a bunch of FFS together on one blu-ray

since Sony has rights it would be nice to see a FF1-12 collection. All on one blu-ray. I would be so happy.

This is why ps3 gets so many complants it would be good to see sony fallow 360 by putting the ps2 games on psn for DL. I wish so much I had hoped this since sony got rid of the BC...sony we could always buy more Gigs to play the amazing games of the ps2. I hope sony has somthing really good in thier trick box. I miss my 60 gig ps3 r.i.p.

now have a lame refurbished 120 gig and I guess the good part is I can still play my ps3 games on it.
