True, but that's how all major companies do it. You go to apple to fix your macbook, they'll tell you to buy a new macbook rather then fix it.they cost more then 250-300 my friend still in the 300s-400s plus its bs that this problem isnt event he consumers fault yet they still charge them.

[QUOTE="Nolan16"]True, but that's how all major companies do it. You go to apple to fix your macbook, they'll tell you to buy a new macbook rather then fix it. Unfortunately modern technologies are not built to last, my old iPod lasted 3 years before dying, I now have a iTouch and I was warned that they are prone to dying at an early age. Its all about making money, not just for Apple, for everyone what is their motivation for making a product that last for several years when you can make a **** one that dies in a year so you can buy another one? and as far as I know if the PS3 gets the "yellow light of death" then you send it back and get one for free, similar to Xboxs policy for the RRoD if it is a random, unrelated issue....then oh well read the warranty next timethey cost more then 250-300 my friend still in the 300s-400s plus its bs that this problem isnt event he consumers fault yet they still charge them.

$150 repair is not bad at all.emitsu97It is when the failure is no fault of your own, if I dropped my system and it stopped working and they charged me 150 bucks, fine. However my bluray drive failing after 13 months along with the thousands of other people with this problem or the YLOD problem should rest solely with Sony. They should be responsible for the shortcomings of their hardware.

Amazing how everyone wants everything for free all the time...I think $150 to get a new PS3 is a very reasonable considering you're going to get a 60 GB model back in return. You can't even buy these models anymore...I called and asked Sony about this too.
Nintendo charges 90 bucks for an out of warranty wii. Does anyone know how much ms charges for an out of warranty 360?
sa10kun
....$100 for most cases.

Do the math and see what 3-5% manufacturing defect rate looks like. Btw, that $150 is for parts, labor, two way insurance and two way shipping on a not so light, no so inexpensive package.

I never said you would get a new system. What I am saying is that if you send them a 60 GB model, they'll send you a 60 GB model back. And for the record, this $150 replacement fee lasts FOREVER...you bought a launch system? What if it dies 3 years from now? Still 150 to fix it! It's seriously not a bad deal. Things break. Nothing lasts forever. I called Sony and specifically asked about this. Don't believe me? Call them and ask.you know, i got the ipod touch when it first came out forever ago & mine's still alive and fully operational. hope yours has a long life too!
[QUOTE="RotaryRX7"]All electronics have a percentage of failures and DOA's. This is one reason why warranties exist. If companies repaired everything for free, they would all go bankrupt. The warranty is limited, and when it passes that limit, there's no freebies. In some cases it does suck, but really...what do you expect companies to do? Make flexible warranties that say "When you have a failure that's not your fault, we'll fix it, even if it's 30 years after the product was purchased!" They have to draw the line somewhere....emitsu97Now here's someone who knows about out of warranty repairs. He likes wankels for crying out loud!  lol I'll show you a wankel! :P

[QUOTE="HarshGamer"][QUOTE="Nolan16"]what is their motivation for making a product that last for several years when you can make a **** one that dies in a year so you can buy another one? Maybe so people dont boycott the company and go to another mp3 maker or in this case microsoft or nint Although the ps3 is very very toughthey cost more then 250-300 my friend still in the 300s-400s plus its bs that this problem isnt event he consumers fault yet they still charge them.

$150 repair is not bad at all.emitsu97Depends on the repair. It's just fishy when somebody wants a certain amount of money without even knowing what's broken yet.
Would you rather pay another 400-500 bucks for a new PS3 or 150 to fix it?149.99$ to reapir my ps3 cool? what a crock of sh*t had the system since day 1 where i bought it for 600$ at least they could do is reapir the fu*cker for free..

Everyone thinks it is a rip because M$ fixes for free but they legally had to due to lemon laws of the U.S.. With a falure rate that high people could have started demand full refunds and they would have to legally do so.wooooodethe ps3 failure rate is VERY HIGH i would think. VERY
I have an MGS 80GB PS3 and it works great. Of course, that's after the disc drive died on me in the first week!

If my PS3 breaks (God forbid) i will be furious if i have to pay.[QUOTE="Sepewrath"][QUOTE="emitsu97"]$150 repair is not bad at all.Denji
Most companies wont offer anything after the warranty is up
Plus its 150 for a brand new 1, not to fix it

[QUOTE="emitsu97"][QUOTE="Bow-T_88"]the ps3 failure rate is VERY HIGH i would think. VERYBow-T_88What? WHAT? I GOT THE YLOD AND I KNOW A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO HAS GOTTEN IT THATS WHAT..when it happens to you, you dont say OH WELL ATLEAST ITS NOT VERY HIGH, u say DAMN! .. The fact is: the PS3 does have a low fail rate, and your caps-lock yelling doesn't change that.
Sony has a year warranty which is the same thing a lot of companies will offer unless of course you pay for extended coverage. Seriously Sony can't cover your system for 5-10 years. That is just bad business. Look at the hit Microsoft has had to take just to fix their 360s. Sony just can't afford to pony up what was it 300 million to cover systems for 3 years. It does seem like a lot of the launch 60Gbs are starting to go out (mine did), but that's life.149.99$ to reapir my ps3 cool? what a crock of sh*t had the system since day 1 where i bought it for 600$ at least they could do is reapir the fu*cker for free..

That and the PSN
Terrencec06
Nothing wrong with PSN. It works great.
It's unfortunate that the OP's system failed but just like any electronic - buy the warranty. Nothing last forever, unfortunately. ;)
