i think multiplayer is need it because it adds a lot of replay value to a game, for example halo wont be what it is today without that online play, so yeah sony should make more games with online play, but single camping offline is the most important thing ofcurse .

I agree that online MP on PC is way better than anything on console, although it could be just because of the keyboard and mouse. I started playing Warhawk and that seems promising...provided I understand what to do half the time. The biggest issue I guess is that it is sometimes hard to play with people at your skill level in many online games. Any race in motorstorm could be a blast if there wasn't the gameing gurus who finish the track a minute before everyone else.
We'd also be nothing without those SP games. People don't play FF and then wish it had online capabilities, they wish there was just something else for them to do in the game like race chocobos or have some other cool minigame. With those games you can recommend it or share it with them so they can experience it on their own and then they can judge for themselves if it was worth their time to play the game (or similarly read a book).
Now Co-op games I think need to be expanded on more and more. X-Men Legend franchise was a step in the right direction. Co-op is what can really make games stand out. Remember the simpsons arcade game? Man, I remember playing with random people trying to beat that game (never did). This is why i think the new simpsons game is going to be pure awesomness...who wouldn't want to join in and play as Bart, Lisa, Marge, or Homer?
The problem is is that developers usually favor one aspect over the other causeing them to not pleas everyone, and it hurts the gamers because we also favor certain aspects over others.
