When will this problem be fixed? Sony has done an EXCELLENT job of keeping up with Mircosoft (And in some ways, surpassing it) However, we were promised, or so I thought we were, to be able to listen to music while we play games on our PS3. Is there an update coming soon for this? Or is this a lost dream?!!

The developpers have to make their games capable of playing music in game, its out of sonys hands now I guess

Yeah Sony made the feature optional for the developers to implement in to the game. Some games let you do it, some dont. It's out of Sony's hands now unless they bother to find a way to put it in for every game without Microsoft sueing them.

What's keeping you from playing while listening to your music on your stereo or mp3 player?

It's PRICIPAL man! Just like Trophies are. If Mircosoft has is, why can't Sony. That's all I'm saying. I personally like hearing the game instead. Or i'll just play music on my laptop.

You can play your own music in some games, its optional, maybe next generation it will become standard, right now its available for games like Warhawk and Killzone 2, a few others too.

It's mostly all PS3 exclusives (or atleast I think so). Off the top of my head I can think of KIllzone 2 and Motorstorm: Pacific Rift that can play custom music.

How can you patent that? Its generic, playing audio file during the use of a video game machine?

When i had my 360 i hardly ever used the feature cos i reckon it used to spoil the games.

Is it because of a patent or the whole EA thing that people were talking about a while back. If it's a patent, can't they just pay royalties?

It's not really that big of a deal to me. It would be nice on some games to have it, but I think the developers chose certain music to be in the game and that's what they want the experience to contain. I don't know about you, but I can't imagine playing a Mario game without all the classic theme music in there. It's just another part of the gaming experience for me.

This feature needs to be in all games that dont have there own soundtrack. I listen to music while I play anyway but then I can't hear what I'm doing in the game and it sometimes distracts me.

the only time I want to listen to my own music is when I become the old monk and Demons Souls and want to play an awesome boss battle track so I don't really care but the should find a way to put it in and not be a part of the subscription plan

the fact that you can play your own music, and still have the sound effects from the game through the same speakers make it worth it... its a great feature to have.. i wish sony would implement it, then i would rip some of my cd's to my ps3.

They've already delivered you your promise about a year ago. Blame developers for not including it into their games.

Super Start dust and bowling came out with ZERO backgorund music,,,when they learned Sony wouldnt implement it,,,they put it in a patch a week later....The code to right ingame music is nothing complicated.......Most developers were just told it would be something Sony would do as part of the psn.......

Now its up to the developers,,,,,and its easy

 Why would you want to? I hate people who play on-line and don't consider other people including their own teammates. We don't want to hear any of that crap.

why is it on X360 games? because M$ made it compulsory for developers (abosultely no option to say no, like M$ likes it), not by choice : why would a developer who paid an artist most likely 100s of $ let you not listen to it and play your own music???

Supposedly Microsoft patented the way they used for having custom soundtracks on the 360 (I'm guessing it was an easy and cost effective way). Sony has the option open for developers who want to include the feature in their games and obviously most don't.

no need to insult my intelligence. its a feature i use a lot on my "other" console. its not exactly essential but it would be anice little feature to have on the ps3. my hi-fi isnt in the same room as my consoles, also its nice to quickly select an album and have it play instead of the ingame music whilst keeping the sound effects.

i cant see what this has to do with spoiling online either, some people just purposely scream, shout, sing or play music down their mics to irritate others.

Sony thinks they're above paying royalties, remember? After all, it took a $98 million slap across the face before they finally paid up for the patents they stole from Immersion for rumble since the PS1 dual shock, and only NOW by actually paying them proper do we have the Dualshock 3.

I wouldn't mind listening to some music while playing FLOWER but it's never gonna happen. You can also listen to music while playing Tekken 6 and playing Comet Crash (PSN) I think.

The 360 can play music for any game at any time in a game overlapping the games music. From what I understand the developers themselves don't have to enable the feature like in PS3 games which is why only a few PS3 games have custom soundtracks.

Because they were the first to start doing it with the original Xbox, and now everyone else wants it? A better question is, why wouldn't they patent it? If Sony had done it first, I'm damn sure they would have bought a patent for it also.

I like to listen the soundtrack of the games instead of my music library.
